Alex Henshall

Unfortunately the club's system has progressed without him and he has fallen down the pecking order.
Lopes, Suarez, Celina, Pozo, Rusnak, Horsfield and Marin are all in or around his position, providing a bit too much competition for he

His future does not lie here unfortunately. He has plenty of pace but is technically weak compared to the other youngsters. Is now third in the eds pecking order despite being one of the older players and this would indicate that the club staff think the likes of Lopes and Rusnak have a higher chance of playing at a high level. When he arrived he was one of the stronger players in the reserve/U18s but has rested on his laurels/failed to improve and younger players have come through and are now showing more promice. It seems he simply matured early.

I wonder where he would be if he had stayed at Swindon and started playing first team age 18 like some of their graduates do..?

Also I wonder what will happen with Rusnak, seems decent to me but is now 18 and faces plenty of competition, perhaps time for a loan?

I think Rusnak definitely has what it takes to play in the PL just a case of whether he can take the extra step. A Guidetti like loan is probably his best chance of making a big impression as he currently doesn't appear to be counted as one of the bigger prospects.

With Henshall I suppose we'll never know. Di Canio might have given him a chance and he could hzve been another Ince/Zaha but as with all youngsters its about going to the right club at the right time and unfortunately I think he moved to soon and the situation is very different now compared to when he first arrived. A 17 year old can very easily get lost in the system. That ismy major fear for the likes of Suarez, Razak and Rekik. There at the point now where there too good for the U21 league but not really good enough to be involved in th first team. Rekik has got himself a loan move where hopefully he can impress and in an ideal world Suarez would get a similar move soon.

Funny how Michael Johnson was supported for so long yet others are written off easily.
Johnson was already in the first team at 19, hence when so many were showing faith in him.

-- February 19th, 2013, 10:11 pm --

A three-year contract doesn't make you think he'll be part of our team?

I was told in October by my mate who's uncle accommodates City youth team players that he had meningitis and had been hospitalised. I've not seen them since then though so have no update.

Joined Chesterfield on loan

Chesterfield have secured the loan signings of young Manchester City winger Alex Henshall and Barnsley midfielder Jordan Clark.

Both players join the club for one month which will take them up to and include the game at home to Plymouth Argyle on March 23.

Henshall, who recently turned 19, joined City from Swindon Town in 2010 and has regularly impressed with their Under 18s.

A left-winger by trade, Alex has featured for England at both Under 16 and Under 17 level.

Last year he was placed on alert for the 2012 British Olympic football team by manager Stuart Pearce, but missed out on the final 18-man squad.
