Alexander Isak | Cried his way to a £130m move

We are told that players believe that they are playing too much football and then we are told they are upset if they get left out, which one is it? Fuck knows!

If we bring another expensive striker in and we rotate I suspect it would piss off one or the other.
The only players who get upset about being left out, are those who know they're surplus to requirements, hence them wanting to move on for more playing time. Players like Sterling, Jesus, Zinchenko, Laporte etc.

If we've 3 high profile games in 8 days, I can't see anyone being pissed about playing in one, being substitute/substituted in another, & being rested in the other. If they stay fit, they'd still be playing 40+ games per season at an elite level, not including Internationals & tournaments.

It isn’t about the number of games for some players. Some might be happy, but the best players want to be first choice for the biggest games.Isak or Haaland would soon get itchy feet being left out for the big games and any finals. It just wouldn’t work, not that I expect we’ll ever find out.

Going by your metric, we only need 11 elite players in the squad. This way they can all play every minute of every game. That should keep that 11 & yourself happy shouldn't it?

We don't need to concern ourselves with insignificant things like injuries, fatigue, loss of form or suspensions should we, because those 11 players will still drag their battered carcasses across the chalk line to spill blood for Pep.

You cool with that?
Answer my question first.

Don't disagree with you with any of that. My only counter point is there's no fat to trim in an attacking department thats already full. Marmoush was the Alvarez replacement, he doesnt look like a good fit in that role (hopefully he'll learn it) but hes excelled off the left so we've added him to the list of options behind haaland but we can't add another.
My fear is Haaland suffering a similar season ending fate like Rodri, & then needing another half a season to recover & get back up to speed. What do we do then?

According to some posters, we revert to a false 9. It may work, it may not. Who knows? Personally, I'd prefer not to take the risk. If we'd planned better in the aftermath of winning the treble, our current squad imbalance wouldn't be such an issue.

Much of this is on Pep & his preference for a small elite squad & rinsing them close to collapse. Hopefully Hugo will stamp his authority over our squad needs. Pep jokingly (or not) threatening to leave if our squad size was increased amused no one.

Football has noticeably gotten faster & more physical of late. A small elite squad will soon be burned out trying to compete on all fronts.

Look how many big games we play though? Who's the bigger game out of ManUre, Arsenal, Dippers, Real, Bayern, PSG etc?

We rarely go two weeks without having to face an elite opponent. Over the course of a season, each player will surely receive enough elite game time.

Don’t think they would, no. Anyway bit pointless to get into it.

So, just to be clear, as we are in the Isak thread, are you honestly saying we need to sign Isak as back up for Haaland?

The dippers are on a spending spree which would put Imelda Marcos to shame.
They’ve pissed all over anything we’ve ever done and get no criticism from the press.

My worry is how they’re funding this.
They’re up for sale, I fucking hope they’re not taken over by some billionaire.

Any elite striker who suits our needs. I couldn't care less whom. Over the course of a season, they'll each get ample elite game time.

Now your turn.
They won't though. Haaland will play 50+ games unless a bad injury prevents him from doing so. As I've already said, this striker you want does not exist and the fact that you won't (or can't) name any proves my point.

Who cares ,not our problem. Still think we have as good if not better squad, or will if we get a right back.

Your post was rendered useless when mentioned rags and elite opponents..

Do you really believe Haaland would be pissed if he was left out of the squad for a rest, as we face Ipswich, Sheffield Utd or Burnley et al at home in the PL, or Lincoln City away in the Carabao Cup?

Big players want to play in the biggest games. That's why we need to utilise our squad to its fullest extent so they can be rotated & rested for lower profile matches.

Regardless of some fans believing that every player wants to play every minute of every game, otherwise there'd be a transfer request incoming, this isn't borne out by the facts. After the treble, Rodri warned that he feared for his health because of the amount of games he was expected to play. His worst fears were realised.

Several players lamented about taking part in the CWC because they needed a rest. Akanji said most of our squad would've preferred the summer off instead of competing in the CWC.

Foden complained about the physical & mental fatigue he was suffering from last season. Bernardo said the players would prefer a larger squad to ease the playing pressure on them.

The only City player I can recall kicking up a proper stink about not playing every game was Cancelo. But he's a mental case who kicked off over the same thing at most clubs he's played at.

Other players who'd fallen out of favour so were not playing as often as they'd like, so wanting a move for more hame time, is a different matter. Players like Sterling, Zinchenko, Jesus, Laporte etc come to mind.

Our players are human beings, not robots. The only person ever to state they prefer a small squad is Pep. I've never heard a player state a small squad was their preference.

If Pep wants to compete for the four major trophies every season, we'll need a bigger squad. We saw the effect that rinsing out a small elite squad season after season had throughout 2024-25. It devastated our squad & made our season imploded.

We can't continue to do this. Something has to change.

Not really the argument I'm making, I'm saying we can't go and buy Isak for megabucks to play against Lincoln in the Carabao as we have Erling and he's our man. Marmoush is also on big wages and we have Foden, Cherki, Doku, Savio and Bobb to keep happy so he's not going to start every single game on the wings so if he's not Erlings number 2 aswell he's going to be pissed off.

There getting him ,and all this fucking about when we were top dogs and did fuck all ,and buying utter shite worrying about PSR is going to bite us on the arse big time .Well run club ,do me a favour.
Lol. Idiot

one thing is sure, next time City wins the league I want us not to step on the break the window after and go slow or do nothing, but SURGE AHEAD and strengthen while we are ahead to make rivals sit up and take notice rather then allow them to catch up quick. thats what now Liverpool is a doing and if they manage to win the league again its all worth it for them.

I am 100% sure had we done a proper window and some big decisions last summer we would have not let dippers have such a free run at the title. huge judgement error from Txiki and Pep to think thee is one more go in our ageing over the hill squad and then problems started like Rodri injury, Foden loss of form, Ederson loss of form etc.
unreal how easy it was for Slot to come in from Feyenoord and clinch the title. with nobody putting up a fight.

Liverpool could end up with the 1st, 2nd and 9th highest transfers in Premier League history. That Coutinho money sure went a long way.
