Alexander Isak | Cried his way to a £130m move

Doesn't work like that in modern football though.

Unhappy player, doesn't want to be there, could be a bad egg in the dressing room. Huge cash asset that will only have 2 years left next year.

Newcastle need money on the books to progress, regardless of how much the owners are worth. It's the nature of modern FPP and PSR that has done this.

Isak and his agent know this and have them tied up.
They have powerful enough owners to tell Isak how it is

Release clauses would solve a lot of problems with players pushing to leave/player power. Not gentlemen agreements but actual clauses in their contracts.

if Isak had a 130 million pound release clause he wouldn’t be able to complain since the fee would be there in his contract on what it takes to get him. You don’t pay that you don’t get him simple.
Yes, gentlemen agreement’s is so naive from the players side. Made to be broken

You said like Brazil 1970. Did you see Brazil 1970? Best team ever, and you compare them on a par with a current Eddie Howe side, lol fucking lol

No I didn't sadly, it was before I was born.

I was only joking by comparing them to Brazil 70, but the point being that if Isak goes from Newcastle to Liverpool then Newcastle will play their best ever game against them.

There probably isn't any gentlemen agreement. The player and their agents often just claim some kinda nod to performance.

If its not in the contract, its not binding. Everyone and their agent knows this ..

They were a remarkable team mate, I was 10 at the time and used to stay up late to watch them, they left an impression that has stayed with me since. Carlos Alberto, Gerson, Tostoa, Rivelino, Jarzinho, and of course Pele. Just the most fluid football team ever

A solicitor I used to work with always said "a contract is only as good as the paper it's written on".

Newcastle should do a Liverpool and make him pay every week he doesn’t come to training. Newcastle getting played like a cuck. Lost their replacement to Liverpool and might lose their star player to Liverpool. If you wanna join the top you better cancel the potential transfer and tell Isak that he has to stay. He has no other choice then to keep playing otherwise the same clubs won’t be interested in him next season.
What a disaster summer its been dir Newcastle unless that ozuna guy somehow breaksthrough
They should tell the dippers, Ekitike and 80m for the sulking Swede, a modern day Clive Allen sitch

We were led to believe that NUFC were run by an elite squad of Saudi secret service agents, but the Isak 'transfer' makes them appear weak. It's difficult for us to know because we don't know the facts we just get to read some pundits view of the transfer which is probably highly distorted.

If the transfer window ends with Isak at the club, and Liverpool without the striker they wanted, then I shall salute them. But it appears at the moment that Liverpool will get Isak once Newcastle agree deals for Wissa and Sesko. If Utd do buy Sesko, then I think Isak will stay simply because it will be difficult for Newcastle to bring in 2 forwards.

The transfer window is all smoke and mirrors because stories sell papers. We've all known that since the age of 10 but we still follow the gossip all the same.

He's going to end up at the dippers unfortunately.

So much player power in football, They'll pull a strop and eventually get their way.
Remember Newcastle let Callum Wilson go. They have to buy 2 forwards before letting Isak go. It's 50/50 I would say as to whether they are going to do that. They could get Wissa perhaps but at the moment there doesn't seem much indication that they are in for anyone else.

I meant more in general. Gentlemen agreements make very little sense and have no meaning which makes me wonder why they even exist.

We’d end up like in Spain when they just set release clauses to £1bn at the big clubs

We are seeing release clauses much more often now. See Eze and MGW.

Why did we not bid for Eze in the Summer after the FA Cup Final and before the CWC? Cerki might be good, on the other hand he might not be. I prefer proven Premier League players which is a market we have not tapped in a while.

Gentlemen’s agreements do exist — and rightfully so, if only are done between gentlemen.
But the problem begins when the agreement is no longer between gentlemen. When one party is a snake, a predator, and the other an unsuspecting prey. And we’re seeing this unfold far too often in football.
Which makes me ask, why do players keep choosing to be prey? My sympathy has run dry for them.

If you're naive enough to gamble your entire career by entrusting it to someone who may not have your best interests at heart, a so-called "beneficiary" who sees you as leverage or profit — then maybe you deserve the consequences.
Because in this game, ignorance is no excuse, and being naive/foolish can be fatal to your career progression.
