Alexander Isak | Cried his way to a £130m move

If I were Newcastle I'd up the transfer fee to $125-130 million because Isak's being such a **** about this. If you want to disgrace yourself that's one thing. But to bring the club into it by saying he had "assurances" or "promises" from the club and now they're reneging on it. Poor form. Unfortunately, because FIFA Article 17 was changed to favor players, Newcastle may have no choice but to sell him or risk getting nothing.

Article 17 won't get him anywhere, Newcastle can keep him training whilst choosing not to play or sell him and be well within their rights.

No club would want to get involved with signing him that way either as it's a dangerous game to play for every club. Liverpool themselves had Suarez kicking off and wanting to leave.

Liverpool fans will be panicking now because their transfer plans have anticipated Isak signing . You would think 4 strikers is insufficient to defend the league title and fight for the CL.

Liverpool must now be looking at alternative forwards.

Im not sure how Newcastle win in this situation.

IF they keep him (which of course they are entitled to do) they will end up with a very unhappy player (ok so who cares about him) but also with a very unhappy squad - other players wont like what is going on either way - some might be thinking -what if an offer comes in for me - will the club sell me (someone like Livramento for instance). Others will rightfully feel betrayed by him (they are trying to build something big and he wants to leave them).

The biggest issue will be the fans however - I just don't see that the Geordie fans will every accept him back. Football fans are fickle (and Tevez did something similar to us - though that wasn't about wanting to leave but he did basically refuse to play at one point) but this has been extremely public and is slightly different...Isak is saying I dont want to play for you anymore...Tevez's fall out was personal between him and Mancini.

Would we accept someone back who did the exact same thing? I dont think we would regardless of who it was.

And if the fans wont accept him back then I dont think the club have a choice but to sell him - they surely wouldnt leave a player in the reserves/on the bench for 3 years,..and his value will only depreciate with time.

edit: Id love Newcastle to win out however I just dont see it happening. ..be very funny if they did.

I think the two play each other very soon as well...that wil be extremely toxic

Depends what you call a win.

For me that could be:
- Getting the £150m that they want for him.
- Ruining a year of his career not playing him and probably still getting £100m next summer. If they really don't give a fuck about the money, they could be petty and just ruin his career.
- Selling to a club other than Liverpool for £110m+, player doesn't get the club he wants but still gets out, win-win I guess, but Newcastle probably get the last laugh with that one.

At the end of the day the worst case scenario's are worse for Isak than Newcastle. Doing all this with 3 years left is mental.

The summer Harry Kane wanted to join us, he still showed up to training every week and pre-season because ultimately the cards were with the club.

Liverpool appear powerful at this moment. This is the team that Isak wants to join but everything that Liverpool have done in the transfer market is predicated on Isak signing. I thought they had made a mistake in extending Salah's contract but they were planning on a transition with Isak as their new centre forward. They have sold Diaz and Nunez and now they are down to 4 forwards. It appears that Newcastle will be unable to replace Isak and have been backed into a corner where no strategy makes sense. If Newcastle keep Isak, Liverpool will struggle to defend their title with 4 forwards and the so-called 'well managed' club will have blundered.

Liverpool look like a joke in my opinion.

If you draw up a list of players, as they will have done, you'd imagine Isak was ahead of Ekitike on it. They've decided to sign a player who, had he gone to Newcastle, would have enabled them to sign Isak. They've fucked themselves over. With Isak going on strike and a bid of £120m being rejected the whole world knows Newcastle have an issue so any forward they now want to sign will be double the price he would have been had they signed them before the bid for Isak came in and he threw his toys out of the pram.

Newcastle wanted an extra £30m, well make that £60m to cover off the extra they'll be asked for when they sign a replacement.

Better to stand firm and reject all bids now. Isak will come crawling back at some point, he's not going to stop playing football completely. The window shuts soon so see what Liverpool are made of.

Think he’s made it pretty clear he will never play for them again, what are they supposed to do?

Saying and doing are different things. If they stand firm, he will ask to play again. Latest in October he will be back starting games for them.

At this particular point how useful would even the £150m be to Newcastle? Even supposing Liverpool would stump it up? They wanted that money near the beginning of the window, not near the end of it. Where would they get a top class striker, with ten days left (and realistically, don't you take the weekend out of that?). They are competing in the CL. They have to factor that in. I think Isak is not telling the whole truth here, and above all I think this is LFC steamrollering another club, much in the way United did in the 90s and noughties when they wanted a player. All along, they have been in effect been implying that Newcastle are a “wee club”, and that any player would dream so much of playing for Liverpool that they would crawl down the A1 and across the M62 on their knees to do it.
I'd actually quite like to see Isak held to his contract, left on the bench, and NUFC do pretty well nonetheless. That won't happen, not in a million years, but it would give me a good laugh.
All breaches can be repaired by a club that shows willing and tact and a player who is a serious professional. And we, above all, should know. Remember a certain Carlos Tevez and his golf holiday? Is Isak that kind of player? Just don't know, as yet.

Can't see anyway back for Isak now after that statement, unfortunately I think the Dippers will come back in with an offer of £130m and Newcastle will reluctantly accept it. Monday nights game should be fun, hopefully the players will be chomping at the bit to get one over the Dippers.

Newcastle v Liverpool next Monday might be an interesting watch!

Newcastle was pretty firm in their language. Maybe they sell him in January but it doesn’t sound like it will happen now.

“the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.

We do not foresee those conditions being met.“

The thing is they didn't firmly say that he wasn't for sale. The countinho Liverpool statement when he threw a tantrum was way harsher.
