At this particular point how useful would even the £150m be to Newcastle? Even supposing Liverpool would stump it up? They wanted that money near the beginning of the window, not near the end of it. Where would they get a top class striker, with ten days left (and realistically, don't you take the weekend out of that?). They are competing in the CL. They have to factor that in. I think Isak is not telling the whole truth here, and above all I think this is LFC steamrollering another club, much in the way United did in the 90s and noughties when they wanted a player. All along, they have been in effect been implying that Newcastle are a “wee club”, and that any player would dream so much of playing for Liverpool that they would crawl down the A1 and across the M62 on their knees to do it.
I'd actually quite like to see Isak held to his contract, left on the bench, and NUFC do pretty well nonetheless. That won't happen, not in a million years, but it would give me a good laugh.
All breaches can be repaired by a club that shows willing and tact and a player who is a serious professional. And we, above all, should know. Remember a certain Carlos Tevez and his golf holiday? Is Isak that kind of player? Just don't know, as yet.
