Grey will resign if the report is changed - that will be difficult to defend in Parliament.

Losing Oakeshott and Bridgen on the same day is a mite careless.

Okeshott along with her beau Tice have long been critics of Johnson but thats over his other fuck up that is brexit

Tories given the same script to speak to the media:

  • Mistakes were made.
  • The PM has apologised.
  • Wait for Sue Gray's report.
  • Boris is responsible for quickest COVID jab rollout.
  • He delivered Brexit.
  • The public should be concentrating on other issues such as Northern Ireland protocol talks with the EU.

Ironically, this was a genuine opportunity to show the public that not all the party is so far down the rabbit hole that there's no possible return.
Accepting he'd fucked up and coming out and telling the world he'd fucked up and forcing his resignation may just have bought them some much needed praise.
Instead, as ever, they fail to read the room and go for self interest therefore cementing in many minds the idea they are just basically laughing and taking the piss out of you all.

That's not really how politics works though is it? The leaders' fates will be decided by the relevant committees, there's a hierarchy to respect and that goes for all parties. Stepping out of line is just political suicide.

Well no, it doesn't work like that because it's all about self preservation. The general public deserve better and if that means some falling on their swords then it'd go down far better than the cloak and dagger bullshit politics has hoodwinked the public into believing.
Of course it'll never change because it suits no party to do so.

There is also the conflict of interest in the Johnson is her boss and he will get to scrutinise and edit the report as he did with the structural racism report. Don't expect anything other than a total whitewash of events.

But as Oakshott (someone I loathe) said on question time last night it doesn't matter what Sue Grey says the trial as already happened and been decided by the public he is guilty, guilty, guilty and he should resign right now. Clearly not something I or many other were expecting .
It will be carefully worded and sufficiently opaque as to give everyone something to which they can cling; Sir Humphrey will be looking down nodding his approval.

The public is always fickle. The public mood today is most definitely against him, which is why the Conservatives are out banging the drum today about future possibilities, because they know that deep down the public is desperate to get on with life again and not be reminded of events to do with the pandemic.

Not really. Some are in there to represent their constituents - I know, crazy idea - so falling on their swords is going to do nothing for their political aspirations. All it would create is a public desire to see more sword-falling. I'm not against that but it's never going to happen.

Sue Gray, like the rest of the Conservatives don't know what evidence is being kept quiet just now and who it involves.

If the report comes out and is somewhat diluted, her reputation could easily be blown out of the water with another revelation by the press.

She really is between a rock and a hard place. In her shoes, I would say it as it is as it is unlikely Boris would be her boss for much longer

Yeah, time to move on, nothing to see here.

If they do nothing wrong they don't have to worry about it either way. My guess is the general public feel little sympathy with the political aspirations of a member of any party if its proved they've made a grave error of judgement.
They certainly seem to be getting wary of the excuses offered in defence and a seemingly lack of accountability.
I agree, nothing is likely to change.
