This thread is a closed shop it seems... the majority of people posting have made the assumption that Brexit of any kind will be an a unmitigated disaster... That remains to be seen.

It’s great for me to visit this group occasionally because until recently I actually thought that I was a pessimist...

Free therapy can’t be bad can it..

I'm not sure that any kind of Brexit would have been an unmitigated disaster. A brexit that was carefully planned and managed might not have been. A brexit that recognised the need for a gradual process, recognising that we've spent 40+ years becoming closer to Europe and 25 years in the single market. A brexit led by a serious politician with vision and an ability to unite the country. It didnt have to have been an unmitigated disaster.

Why is it based on lies?

I did not see Deal or No deal on the ballot paper it just said stay or remain.

The majority want out - even more so now. Did you not see the recent election results?

Lets just get out and move on.
What makes you think even more want out now?
The Euro election results total for the Brexit Party and UKIP was about 36%. If you add in Brexit supporting Tories and Labour it comes to about 45% according to estimates. That's 7% less than the referendum. Obviously that's just an opinion because it's impossible to accurately gauge the preference of Labour and Tory Party voters but there's absolutely nothing to suggest that support for Brexit has risen since the referendum.

I said at the outset that Brexit needed a cross party committee and not simply a Brexit Secretary. Sadly in our political system that would be destined to fail as our opposition parties seem determined to argue black when the government say white... they seem to argue against things they actually should support at times because they feel they should.. it’s pretty pathetic

The system is long overdue a shakeup.. the attitudes and behaviour of our politicians are not acceptable at times and that says something about our nation I guess .. I don’t see it changing

If you'd said to me four years ago, that in the near future, we'd had voted to leave the EU, that Donald Trump would be POTUS, and Boris Johnson PM, I'd have laughed loudly and hysterically in your face.

What the actual fuck is going on?

Every so often people think the time they are living in has become so unbearably bad and their situation so intolerable that it doesn’t matter who or what they vote for...and then discover they were terribly, terribly wrong.

There should have been a cross party committee and a consensus established not just in England but across all the home nations. But as the Govt refused to do this throughout the two years of EU negotiations either in Parliament or in the country as a whole I’m not sure what you expected the opposition to do. Crack open the bubbly and rejoice? May didn’t even let her own party in on the negotiations let alone the opposition.
