So your statememt just proved that the threat of punishment doesn't deter people, as after being punished this hypothetical murderer re-offends.

And as I said punishment should fit the crime humanely, a murderer wouldn't be released if I had my way, they wouldn't be executed though just jailed for life
It's not hypothetical unfortunately, I could live with take a life by anything other than accident spend the rest of your life inside but the reality is that's not happening.

if he delivers brexit he will win the next general election by a land slide in my opinion. i think its actually refreshing to have someone new in - someone who actually believes in brexit.

theresa may has got to be one of the worst prime ministers ever
You seem to believe, possibly because you inhabit some sort of Brexit echo-chamber, that there is an overwhelming appetite for leaving, but there isn't. There never has been. The country is split right down the middle on this issue.

If you can't see that, then you simply aren't capable of objective thought.

In the scenario you paint, it will be another deadlocked parliament, with a decent number of seats changing hands down to particular demographic reasons within certain constituencies. Some, one way; some the other.

Our two main parties are headed by people who are more akin to comedy characters than heavyweight politicians. A **** and a wanker.

The fucking state of our politics.

Hang on - haven't you and others spent 3 years saying that Fox is a useless fucker?

No - personally I have questioned his usefulness given the restrictions on negotiating under the current status quo but the point I was making was at least he had 3 years of putting out the feelers of making contacts of networking - seems Boris is being vindictive and getting rid of any one he thinks could decide to go outside the tent and piss in and getting all his no deal buddies on board - then he will go on holiday tomorrow - then they will come back and hold a conference - any idea when they will enact the supposed 100 pieces of secondary legislation required to facilitate a no deal Brexit? 99 days to go and Boris is being measured for a toga and buying a fiddle in preparation for hallowe'en if you ask me.

It’s not a deterrent when you hang the wrong people.

This obsession for terrible punishment to be meted out is an odd one. In Germany the punishment for homicide is 5 to 15 years. They have a population 20m higher than ours, a lower murder rate and a lower prison population. So the question really is do you want to lower the murder rate - in which case the German model would be one to study or do you just want to hang people because - well just because you want to hang people I guess. In which case the US model with record incarceration rates, the death penalty and much higher murder rate is the one for you.

Just don’t pretend it has anything to do with justice or reducing crime.
If anyone was going to trot out the same old crap why is it you, yes Germany is a fairly ordered society, so not comparing like for like, why not compare Japans murder rates (they do have capital punishment) and use that as the one to study. You tell me why someone who has so little regard another human life should be allowed to continue with theirs and I'll be happy to concede your point.

Cant disagree but we ignore a democratic vote, one in which parliament said we, the electorate will decide and you might as well slam the doors shut and draw the blinds.

I can see the country is split and feel for those that want to remain even though i voted to leave but the vote said we would leave.

Can you not understand that point of view or does getting your own way which is to remain mean that much to you that you are willing to ignore the vote and the wishes of those that voted to leave?

It works both ways mate.

The Countries split just to the right of right down the middle, but you're correct Great Britains never seen a Parliament of 650 so inept useless tossers in it's history.Maybe a country gets the leaders it deserves.

Im with you here mate and i know i will be branded as some right wing fantasist yet again but i firmly believe in capitol punishment for those that commit first degree murder.

I speak from experience in that my Dads brother murdered a guy in cold blood by stabbing him through the heart with a screwdriver and instead of the near 20 years he did in which he basically got high every day and cause trouble, he should have faced the death penalty.

Anyway its for another thread and debate.

And I should add, that forcing Brexit through without a broad consensus will make those divisions even wider. How can that be a good thing? The only way Brexit's going to work, in terms of national cohesion, is if it's ultra-soft.

There will be huge consequences of a no-deal Brexit, for our society, just like there will if we don't leave. Fucked either way. Well done Cameron.

Whatever the outcome, this whole sorry shit-show has been such an oppressively dark cloud over our nation, and will be for many years to come.
