Alexandole Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

Those weapons of mass destruction turned up yet?
Blair morphed into a habitual liar as a consequence of him assuming high office. When he entered office, he was widely considered to be a man of some integrity and a straight talker. This is why the electorate placed such overwhelming trust in him.

Johnson is widely regarded as being the former (a liar) and most definitely not the latter (a man of integrity) even before attaining that office.

That is the principal distinction.

You have to ask yourself how is he considered fit for office when even his own staff don't want he speaking unscripted in public for fear of what he will say and what effect it would have on his own campaign....if he ducks the first one I am sure the format will be altered in such a way that those who do attend will be invited at every opportunity to rubbish the guy - that in itself could be hugely damaging as he won't be able to defend himself.

That is what has become abundantly clear over the last few months. The Conservatives have demonstrated that it’s party first with everything else nowhere. The country can go to hell in a handcart as long as they’re in power.

We will go to hell in a handcart with a Labour government..

The Tory grassroots will still overwhelmingly vote for him.

Blair and his administration was an unmitigated disaster. Putting aside the lies to parliment over the two illegal wars he wanted and the loss of over 700 service men and women, the serious injury to over 5000 and half a million civillian deaths. He also presided over the wholesale privatisation of the NHS via PFI hospital builds at ridiculous unsusptainae jnterst rates for decades. The sale of over 95% of our gold reserves at the lowest market point in years. Giving up our rebate to the EU on an empty promise that the French would renegotiate their farming subsidy, which never happened. He also created massive division in the UK with the devolved parliaments which then resulted in the rise in nationalism we see especially north of the border. He encouraged everybody to go to university even if some wernt actually intelligent enough, then when he realised we the country couldnt pay for it he abolished free higher education and introduced tuition fees for England forcing the vote through parliment with scottish MPs. Lets also not forget his government were also responsible for the deregulation of the financial sector which resulted in massive free and easy credit, soaring house prices massive unsustainable household debt which ultimately led to the uk being at the forefront of the biggest recession in 80years. First in nearly last out.
He is without doubt the worst PM in the last 30 years an utter and complete disgrace of a man who has no humility at all.

Disagree with most of that but it’s the wrong thread for it.

Nazanin Zaghari has now gone on hunger strike in the Iranian jail she's holed up in.

Was just watching Sky news asking Jeremy Hunt if Borris will shoulder any of this responsibility. Have noticed them turning on him this week.
Is that the Iranian woman who traveled to her homeland Iran on an Iranian passport to celebrate the Iranian new year with her Iranian family?

That man’s lies caused the death of tens of thousands of innocent people, Boris exaggerated his case by using a correct but misleading gross figure in a referendum campaign.

Yep. The one Johnson said was training Journalist up, and which the regime keep using his very words to keep her locked up.

That’s a non-sequitur, and my point isn’t a political one, nor even Brexit related (honestly!)

That someone so widely regarded as dishonest at the time they enter office will slip with such effortless ease into that office is a hugely sad day for this country, in my mind. It would represent a nation that had lost a real sense of morality.

Didn’t we used to have a filter for people like this?

That is referring to general elections, not Conservative leadership elections. Whatever Johnson might be, it's disingenuous at best to conflate the two.
Very best!! - Were there debates ahead of May's appointment - Cameron's? - any Conservative Leader?

Were there previously debates to select Corbyn?, Vince Cable? - anyone / ever being appointed to lead a political party?

Is this not all simply Remainers concerned that a pro-Leave individual might be appointed leader of the Conservative party?

Perish the thought ;)

Why on earth would it? Does the principle apply to everything? By-elections? Cabinet re-shuffles?

Sky are not a disinterested observer in this, it's news activism how they promote the idea of leader debates in the general election - they openly campaign for it for their own interests. Their highlighting of that story today when it's plainly about something else, is piss poor on their part.
When they started their 'campaign' a year or so ago - it was just so obviously self-serving

You are right - were should it stop?

Setting aside the inherent risk that the slippery slope here is that we get PM's who have little talent but can lie and perform - it can only be about GEs surely

Thinking further - just why the fuck is there any sense in debating this on national TV?

The number of people that will be voting is very small and given the average age they might not even have SKY!!!

No - this is SKY promoting SKY
