Alexandole Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

The thing is, I am not going to change the minds of these people but there is often other posters, who aren’t really political, fancy a quick look to see what’s going on, who will venture on to these threads and will be horrified, worried, and disgusted that we’ve got the Nazi Party running the country, when it’s not true. It’s really to offer an alternative to the endless drivel and I quite enjoy it.

I think elements of the left have become so ridiculous that they need knocking down a peg or two. Unfortunately they all just put me on ignore because they want their echo chamber.

Regarding your last part, well I’m in my 20’s still so 4/5 years of Brexit debate, going back that length of time, takes you to a different guy. 43/44 to age 48 doesn’t really see much change in a person unless something significant happens to them. Comparing your 23 year old self with you at 28 is a big difference. So there’s that.
You definitely provide some balance in a lot of threads mate, which I really like. Opinions are there to be challenged, so I feel sorry for those that have you on ignore as I believe the only way to learn is to listen to other viewpoints.

Well I do appreciate that.

I agree with your last point so much. I actually listen to people like Galloway and Owen Jones, as well as Tommy Robinson, I disagree with these people the most but I need to know what I’m up against, when talking to their followers or people that agree with them.

It’s the healthiest way to engage in politics.

I try not to engage in politics too much as lefties think I’m a righty & righty’s think I’m a leftie, so I end up pissing everyone off :)

I know that feeling.

There was a month or two in the Brexit thread where I was getting pelters from both remainers and leavers, that was a fun period.

For the record I have Banjani on ignore at the request of the board owner.

Got his balls chewed off at the select committee hearing again. He even ruffled his hair a bit more to try and distract. His Brazil Virus quip has taken the headlines to bury another cluster fuck of a performance.

one of these people is across their brief - the other is a mumbling clown that doesn't do details - anyone still supporting him should be fucking ashamed

Danny Finkelstein on PM yesterday admitting several criticisms of Boris, but he appears honestly to believe Boris is just an optimist, and it's all fairly reasonable, and as long as the vaccines are delivered, people will be happy with his effort.

I realised at this moment that the inside of Danny's head is a polling operation. I mean, if it's not, if it is in fact a very well rounded array of intellectual faculties, as I was lead to believe, it's being operated under the supervision of a polling operation. Danny is listening to 40% positive on Boris, 40% negative, 20% undecided.

Like it's a perfect representation of the natural judgement Danny would arrive at regarding what's actually happening if he analyzed each criticism independantly.

I think I've detected how this works; What happens is that he actually assigns a weighting to each criticism or praise so the whole thing matches how happy he is with his standing in the polls.

It's a very sophisticated approach that reminds me of myself and every other 'thinking' fucker going. Dad didn't raise a fool ...much less someone seen to be a fool in the public eye.

Anyway, I've deduced that Danny's reaction to what's happening since the last polls is that he'll decide what he's been thinking all along at some point in the future between the next polls being published and him being invited to comment publicly.

I can't wait.

I had a long running correspondence with Mr Finkelstein over an article he wrote in the Times, i was that incensed by it I wrote a long letter to the Times venting my anger and to my surprise Mr Finkelstein replied to me explaining his rationale behind the article.

He is what I would consider a High Tory, he is steeped in the traditions of Adam Smith and Burkean Conservatism. A far more honourable Tory than Johnson could ever dream of being but a Tory nonetheless.

I would trust Finkelsteins and Simon Heffer's judgement on the Tory party over any other journo's because they are rare creatures that actually understand Conservatism. Neither are like Johnson, who is a brash rambunctious figure with little of the intellectual grounding in Conservatism that Finkelstein and Heffer possess.

If Finkelstein believes that Johnson is an optimist, I would take that on board because all the evidence points in that direction, One of Johnsons major political traits is to employ "boosterism" in virtually everything he does. It is perhaps his only political weapon because he lacks the ideological thinking of Conservatism. I would even go as far as saying he has used the Conservative party as a vehicle for his own self promotion in pretty much the same way Trump used the American Republican party and Blair used the Labour Party. They are not stepped in the traditions but see the parties as a means to an end and that end is ultimately power and the status of being leader/PM

Increasingly though the likes of Heffer are becoming very critical of Johnson, they see him as the vacuous man he is and they do genuinely fear for the future of Conservatism, in pretty much the same way I fear for the future of Socialism under Starmer.

The bigger question is though is there anybody in the Conservative party as likely to keep the Tories in power as Johnson and i think both Finkelstein and Heffer would take Johnson over the Labour party if it came down to it because the Tory party has always had one major overriding reason to exist and that is to be in power as they are genuinely convinced they are the natural party of Government,
