Alexandole Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

He's off in front of Ethics and Standards heads, and is just making stuff up now. He's sunk straight into his "I believed it was true so it must be true" mindset.

Bryant: "MPs interests register is updated every 2 weeks, but ministerial interests are tucked away in 232 separate documents online. That's not transparent, is it?"
Bozo: "I disagree..."

If he's against MPs disappearing to do things other than being an MP, does that include missing the early COBRA meetings on Covid in order to write a book on Shakespeare?

Mr Johnson will be launching the "Fuck you Northern gits rail plan" at East Midlands Parkway tomorrow.

Why choose there and not Derby, Nottingham, Birmingham, Sheffield or Leeds?

1. It's a carbon neutral railway station. Fully recycles everything so ticks his green box.

2. It's next to the M1 for a quick getaway.

3. The perfect location for a Great White Elephant launching it at what we call East Midlands White Elephant.

4. I also led to believe there's a warehouse full of fridges nearby as a last resort.

Look forward to the BBC Political editor trying to spin today as a great day for the PM.

An SNP bloke: Should cash for honours end?
(paraphrased) "we have to go ahead with this system where public-spirited individuals make donations, unless the unions are stopped or we provide with taxation."

That sounded very very like a 'yes we're doing it', and certainly no denial.

About 16:46.

Missed this Mat - been a bit offline floored by a bloody chest infection.
What's actually being launched here?

I have a friend or two who - for reasons I still don't know - voted for Boris who live in the East Mids (having been staunch labour - Brexit of course and likely idealogical reasons).

Something else that's' being lost by the sounds of it.

The above and "Raft of improvements to the railway infrastructure in the North that show our commitment to levelling up..." That the Torygraph will probably leak at midnight before he does it officially.

The whole rail upgrade plan.

If memory serves, it was mentioned (leaked?) at the weekend that there is a new upgrade going from Birmingham to East Mids Parkway (middle of nowhere but conveniently has a Conservative MP), and also another bit (also coincidentally with a Conservative MP) but with a 50 mile gap between them which they're not going to do anything with (Derby).

How joined-up the thinking is, I don't know.

There isn't really much point in a lot more speed between Derby and Sheffield - it twists around hills.

Why he's going to East Mids Parkway is a bit odd. Okay, it won't get mobbed, but no-one much lives nearby and the mainline there goes from Leicester to Derby without a whole lot of stops in the middle.

That was my first thought as well.

I'm guessing he's going there to try and sell 7 miles of freight train track being upgraded for a non existent service from Birmingham to connect there to take people to the "Northern Powerhouse" from there.

The TOC that manages the station paid a Tory Minister £40,000 last year as a "consultant." I doubt that will have anything to do with it...

Ah, I'd forgotten that it was 7 miles!

Hadn't seen the 40k bit though.

I wonder if we'll get Shapps on the media round tomorrow not answering anything as "you'll have to wait and see".

So the Toton HS2 station/line is being ditched in favour or a minor upgrade to a forlorn station.
Is it even levelling?

What’s the situation re Manchester? Wasn’t that due to be announced tomorrow?
Manchester is doing quite well given we’re shackled to London (but nowhere near where it should in a less centralised country).
It’s the likes of Nottingham, Derby that will feel the lack of real investment (& dare I say EU funded projects).
