Alexis Sanchez

I've made my opinion well known on here lots of times. I can't tell what's going to happen. Wenger might be true to his word and keep him regardless, or it might be like the times before and there will be a point which we will sell at.

All I am doing is trying to point out a few counter arguments as to why it might be different and the thought processes behind them to those who suggest this is a foregone conclusion. I've always said though, there's a good chance he ends up at City.

First of all I find your posts well balanced and welcome showing a view from a different perspective. Thanks for that and keep on going.

I think there will be some kind of minimum bid below which Arsenal had to say f**k off to show some standing.
Anything below 40m just wouldn't be fair value nor market prize, perhaps even more. What's your feeling there?

Key will be signing a replacement, i.e. Lemar. The rest would be easy.

Theres a big difference in playing champions league football and playing it with a team who have a chance of winning it. One way or another his time at arsenal is coming to an end. Father time is also entering the equation. Super player but if he's ever coming it needs to be now in 12 months time.

I am not that keen on Sanchez coming to City, and I don't see any evidence that we're in for him. It's almost August and we haven't put a bid in for the player.

I think the chances of him leaving Arsenal on a free transfer which will get negotiated and inevitably announced 6 months before the end of his contract will dominate your season and become a huge negative for you when it gets announced.

If I was in your shoes, my dream would be to make a flying start to the season and be so strong on the pitch that it would persuade him to stay, but that's very unlikely. I think it's become clear now that the best option for Arsenal is to sell him, end the uncertainty and prepare now rather than later for his departure. However, if City aren't in for him, he's very likely to go on a free regardless of what Arsenal want. I am surprised that you are so ambivalent towards that prospect. News midway through your season that your main man would be walking away at the end of the season would be devastating. Wenger's insistence that he was going nowhere fools no one. Arsenal have lost control of events, and Alexis and his agent dictate what happens now. My thoughts are that they cash in. City could be playing a smart game. I think if we do want him, Arsenal will snatch our hand off because the prospect of him announcing mid season he's out is a killer that you need to avoid at all costs, but the only suggestion that we are in for Sanchez is from the press, and I don't believe a word they say, especially when it comes to City.

Last season you had what looked like a lame-duck manager, and it was rescued by the extraordinary determination of Sanchez but I just don't see him focused on Arsenal any more, and I can see him getting a lot of grief next season. Obviously all crystal-ball gazing. I for a while felt Arsenal would not sell at all costs, but I've been reflecting on these reported talks with Bayern and PSG and the incredible wage offers he's turned down. He's either got the idea in his head that City are going to come in for him, or he thinks he can get millions in a free transfer at the end of his contract, and that's what I am thinking at the moment. It doesn't look like there is going to be a good ending for Arsenal fans.

Whatever happens Arsenal are likely to lose out. I think we all accept that. So the big play here is what gives us more chance of atvleast getting back in the Champions League places next year as a bare minimum.

Is that selling Sanchez, signing a Lemar, and hoping that he hits the ground running and coupled with Lacazette the attack is more balanced?

Or is it keeping Sanchez, knowing he's currently our best player, and hoping he performs at the level we know he can admist all the speculation?

Either is a gamble. Thing is, I don't know our finances? Will the sale of fringe players help us sign a Lemar without the necessity to sell Sanchez, or would a signing be dependent on a Sanchez sale?

Me personally, I would consider a Sanchez sale if it would let me sign a Lemar / Mahrez plus a centre midfielder. I feel we have lots of numbers there, but not enough quality. I think a lot of Arsenal fans would be more open to selling if we knew that the team in general could get strengthened, the problem is not many trust Wenger to do so.

@GunnerGer

Nice little fact from dictionary corner today, the term 'dunce' derives from the scholar John Duns Scota from the 13th century.... apparently he was once regarded as a visionary, his work on philosophy and theology ahead of its time, anyway I digress, Marvin I feel is the bluemoon version (just in reverse), he's mocked and sneered at from the wider audience, however he will one day turn that mockery of the name 'Marv' in to something positive one day, mark my words....

* this post includes my opinion that Sanchez will sign, thus the mods don't have to Marv me and delete the post

Thanks, I do try and be respectful and thoughtful on here. After seeing some of the others, can appreciate how fans of rival teams can come across.

Think my post above covers what you were asking. If at the start of the window you could say to me, ok you lose Sanchez but you can strengthen the team by signing Lacazette, Lemar and say Goretzka (however unlikely), I'd probably accept that. The problem is we always seem to leave ourselves a position or 2 short of real quality.
