I am not that keen on Sanchez coming to City, and I don't see any evidence that we're in for him. It's almost August and we haven't put a bid in for the player.
I think the chances of him leaving Arsenal on a free transfer which will get negotiated and inevitably announced 6 months before the end of his contract will dominate your season and become a huge negative for you when it gets announced.
If I was in your shoes, my dream would be to make a flying start to the season and be so strong on the pitch that it would persuade him to stay, but that's very unlikely. I think it's become clear now that the best option for Arsenal is to sell him, end the uncertainty and prepare now rather than later for his departure. However, if City aren't in for him, he's very likely to go on a free regardless of what Arsenal want. I am surprised that you are so ambivalent towards that prospect. News midway through your season that your main man would be walking away at the end of the season would be devastating. Wenger's insistence that he was going nowhere fools no one. Arsenal have lost control of events, and Alexis and his agent dictate what happens now. My thoughts are that they cash in. City could be playing a smart game. I think if we do want him, Arsenal will snatch our hand off because the prospect of him announcing mid season he's out is a killer that you need to avoid at all costs, but the only suggestion that we are in for Sanchez is from the press, and I don't believe a word they say, especially when it comes to City.
Last season you had what looked like a lame-duck manager, and it was rescued by the extraordinary determination of Sanchez but I just don't see him focused on Arsenal any more, and I can see him getting a lot of grief next season. Obviously all crystal-ball gazing. I for a while felt Arsenal would not sell at all costs, but I've been reflecting on these reported talks with Bayern and PSG and the incredible wage offers he's turned down. He's either got the idea in his head that City are going to come in for him, or he thinks he can get millions in a free transfer at the end of his contract, and that's what I am thinking at the moment. It doesn't look like there is going to be a good ending for Arsenal fans.
