That approach isn't consistent with your point: "People who think these guys have some kind of miraculous talent judging abiity, are just fucking stupid, & going against all evidence."

Sorry, I just don't think you're making sense. You're saying that Pep has no ability to judge but you're also saying let him pick the best ones in his opinion.

Regardless: my point is that you don't have to put them in the first team to find out. You just let them train with the first team players and see if they're goos enough to hold their own there.

for me this is spot on. The first test is to impress amongst the first team in training to be considered a chance on the pitch

Alas mate his credibility is about two notches down from Donald Trump's

doubt it, he's too good and experienced for it. Might not be what we expected and not as good as he was last season at arsenal, but he'd perform at certain goodish level for sure.

Its always a gamble as we found out with Peps choice of goalie last year.

If we sign him and if he stutters a little do you think Pep will give him time to adjust like he did with Bravo ?
Last season we suffered from lack of shooting accuracy from most who attacked and chronic goalkeeping errors, we seem to have a good goalie now so do we think Sanchez will resolve the accuracy problem ?

Ok, I hear your point that they're making an educated guess, that's all we can hope for. Thing is you came into a conversation about whether we should sign proven pros like Sanchez or blood youth players instead, so I'm reading it in that context. What do you think, we should take the risk?

I don't think we should take the risk. I like the strategy of loaning or selling with buy back clauses. It's a good deal for player and club because City now have the best facilities and really look after young players.

I really disagree that we'd have had 'about 40' youth players graduate into the city first team squad in 'the last few years' if we just played them though. Who are these players who've gone on to make it at other top clubs?

Again, I didn't say that at all. I don't even know if one would have made it (I suspect several would at least be squad players but I have no idea without seeing them) & I think they have to be played at the right time or they go stale & lose it (in answer to your 'other clubs' question).

You said we graduate them based on 'holding their own' in training. I disagree & am making the point that they do, 'hold their own' in training. Even Boyata etc & players from that era. They are really good & training is not like real games. Hence my '40 players' comment.

The decision to play them in the first team is not based simply on that, they then 'guess' how the player will do, if he's promoted, under pressure, harder tackles etc. And usually play safe rather than even a sub place. That needs to change imo.

Re Sanchez, I would rather make up his squad place with 3 or 4 academy kids rather than sivn him.

I accept it is likely to be a stronger option to sign him, but I would go with Diaz, Foden, Pat Roberts & any of the EDS who stake a claim, competing for that spot.

If we had no money left, that's what we would do & just maybe, we would strike gold. It would create a buzz around the ground & extra energy.

But it's dead easy & safe to play Sanchez instead, so that's probably what we will do if we can get him.
