Alexis Sanchez

If he wanted to link up with Pep again and he wanted to win trophies, brilliant, sign him up. If he just wants shit loads of cash from someone; anyone, then let that be someone else. Sanchez is a fantastic player when he decides to be but I can only imagine that kind of greedy, primadonna attitude will affect the amazing team spirit City currently have.

Sanchez’s agent wants him to be the highest paid player at the club?! Er, excuse me, am I reading that right? This, for a player who would spend at least some of his time on the bench?
It’s not a question of the transfer fee, it’s not a question of what Sanchez would bring to the team (a lot). City are completely right to walk away. I regret that we’re not getting him, finally, but that demand is completely out of order, if true.
Nothing more to see here. Let’s move on.

He's a selfish player unpopular in the Arsenal dressing room.

If he rocks up with that attitude earning a lot more than anyone else it's the sort of thing that could rock the boat.

We need another forward though and a centre back, a left back and a DM. The squad isn't big enough for 4 competitions.

The problem is that if this deal goes through and he is paid 350k per week then that will become an obtainable rate for a top player and we will have to pay it anyway.

Everyone thought Pogba was expensive until the Naymar deal went through. Now £150m becomes the top rate.

Also, it's a £100m deal all in. If he had 3 years on his contract it would still be a £100m deal. As it stands he's just getting it in wages instead of a transfer fee. I don't really get the sense in pulling out of a player we really need just because we can't get him on the cheap.
They obviously believe that £100m can be put to better use elsewhere. It's a hell of a lot of money for a 29 year old. And if the stories of a 5-year deal are correct, the rags will still be paying Sanchez at least 350k per week when he's 34/35. That's insane and the reason why we generally avoid signing players in that age bracket.

Also, I may be being naive here, but I don't see why 350k per week will become the norm just because that's what the rags are paying him. No one else is paying that kind of money to players who aren't among the very best in the world. Plus Sanchez is only getting that much because his transfer fee is so low; other players won't be able to command that much if they're under contract with their existing clubs.

And personally I don’t think we will miss him, I don’t miss dani alves, I don’t miss Isco, I’ve never missed hazard. We haven’t really suffered this season without Mbappe. We’ve lost 1 game to a team we never win away to anyway ! I’m convinced we will pick up where we left off and then in summer buy an amazing striker/forward and we will all be laughing at this saga

United have fergie to blame for all this. Ok he made them millions but it's coming back to bite them now. Cos he did one they are no longer as attractive. The selfish fuck should have stayed till he made 90.
In order to entice any player worth his salt it's now upwards of 300k a week, they even paid that to Rooney in sheets desperation lol.

Carry on. Add to the debt. You might make top 4 yet.

I think Sanchez is a cracking player and have often sympathised with his form on here to posters who didn't support him moving to City. However, his form this season compared to our current stars makes his (agents) request to pay him a salary that obliterates our wage structure laughable. I commend our upper echelons for not bending to the whims of greedy people.

That said, I hope the impossible happens and Sanchez decides, as he did in the summer, that he'd rather play for City than take bigger money elsewhere. There is still a door open to him and I'd like him to take it.

I understand why United are paying him this much

Sometimes you need to pay more for players to take you to the next level, like what we did when we paid Yaya the reported 220 k a week and made him the highest paid player in the league and he justified it at the end.

I hate United and I am disappointed that Sanchez is moving to them, but lets accept it and move on.

You can’t keep inflating the market for bang average players though ! Where will it end ? You don’t pay what you have to, you keep within the structure of your budget ! You think of the players you have, you think of FFP which is still alive and well. Man united have utter clowns running that club, they are paying over 100 odd million for a guy out of contract in 4 months who is 29.
We need to keep our feet on the ground
I agree, and I'm glad the club is walking away, but that's still the trajectory, and any agent worth their salt is going to play big clubs off against one another.

What it's come down to is that city don't think Sanchez is worth exploding our wage structure for.

I think this is why City is renegotiating a lot of contracts way in advance based on performance: KDB, Sterling, etc. It's sending the message that we're willing to pay at much as anyone, but based on performance at our club. It gives players a financial incentive to keep improving here, and not asking their agents for a next move to get a pay rise.

Which was always my concern.

Plus our team thrives on harmony, I think caving in and doing this deal would be bad for morale . United are going to have a lot of unhappy forwards like Rashford, martial, lukaku . Always trying to fit square pegs in round holes. This guy could be free and clear in just a few months but he can’t even wait that long !! Our game relies on heavily on patience and focus and this guy is nothing but rashness and chaos.

Are you my twin.

It's not common sense to make a new signing who wouldn't be your best player the most highly paid one. Sanchez or his agent probably both are obviously trying to get all they can out of the deal but it really is shameful for a player who hasn't turned up and shown any real loyalty or form for his old club. The price tag is a dick waving contest with united thinking they walk away with some political clout even if they've been bent over and sold everything to pay for what is a 29 year old disloyal out of form squad player.

And personally I don’t think we will miss him, I don’t miss dani alves, I don’t miss Isco, I’ve never missed hazard. We haven’t really suffered this season without Mbappe. As they say you can't miss what you never had.

Our ranking and pulling power is increasing with each passing year and when Bayern's manager speaks you listen and we know what he thinks of KDB.

If Manure are left to bring in players purely on the basis that they pay them more than would anywhere else at least in the premiership then the victories are all the more hollow.

I'm disappointed Panchez has not signed. I think he would of given us a bit more depth and a new burst of energy etc. But if he doesn't want to join and follow the money then he's just a Greedy fucking bastard who deserves to be at that vile club and rot! And under that utter *unt of a manager. Sometimes things happen for the best.. Imagine now if we go for a truly world class forward in the Summer ?? Lewandowski would do me fine. Fuck you Panchez, fuck you MourinHO, fuck you rag shit, fuck his despicable agent. LOVE CITY. CTID. P.S If Chelsea hijacked that deal I would be the happiest man alive( I can dream)

We have a team here, one that works for each other and pep has achieved that because he’s uncompromising on the egos ! Sanchez has really rocked the boat with his crazy demands and doesn’t come across as the type of player we need at this stage of the season, his demands, his attitude so far on the pitch ! There is nothing that fizzes my piss more than a striker that quits a run and starts throwing his arms up in the air in frustration at his team all the time ! He does it all the time.
I don’t even think it could work now if his agent climbed down. It’s really poisoned the water.

Though was a bit disappointed for deal to not get through but after reading about his wage demands its laughable and hysterical to say the least. Though initially i thought paying 15m extra to arsenal shouldnt be a big deal but considering his wage demands we have rightly ended our pursuit, making him our highest paid player would not only blow our wage structure but create resentment in our squad and he isnt even at the level of debruyne or silva.

Exactly, pace is the last thing we need against teams constantly parking the bus. Ridiculous suggestion

This ^.

Vardy or even Theo Walcott have the blistering pace needed to finish those six yard cross balls from KDB. There was one in particular on Sunday that Aguero missed but Vardy especially would have got to.

These forums come with a health warning.

I've read some absolute whoppers on here this past week. To use a football analogy, this forum thread has in large parts parked the bus, shut up shop and retreated into a defensive shell underpinned by a siege mentality discourse. The irony. I'm absolutely convinced that some people post on here with one eye on Rag Cafe and sit looking over their shoulder. Football fandom is tribal. Forums are tribal too. These issues are absolutely tribal. So instead, its retreat into the world of self deception and portray this as something it clearly isn't or frame it in a way which constructs a particular narrative on Bluemoon with the hope if enough people collectively believe it, it will become real and true.

Firstly, we're 12 points clear. Because we have the best manager in football who has improved virtually every player at the club bar one or two including Aguero. That improvement is mutually influenced - players taking on board and trusting his methods/philosophy and his coaching genius providing the platform to improve technically and (bar last Sunday, mentally too). Everyone recognises this. But to use this, Rodney Marsh as some ridiculous nostalgic reference, or any other anecdote as the basis for presenting this Sanchez deal as not being critical is frankly ludicrous, short sighted, naive and riddled in bad faith. And then to throw into the mix - oh he's 29 and Jamie Vardy as alternative framing strategies are even worse.

This signing is more than just one footballer. Sometimes, events in football write their own logic and rules. On Sunday evening, City could have been 18 points clear. By the time we play on Saturday at 5.30pm we may be 9 points clear. A significant difference still nonetheless, but in a week where the Sanchez deal and everything which comes with that change the whole season and galvanise our biggest rival. This signing both refreshes the player and Utd as a football club - and puts pressure on us mentally.

- Why would we be better as a squad without Sanchez? Lets look at the arguments

1. Because we're already 12 points clear without him. Yes, in the present not future tense. Id rather be in our position and this is the best season of football I'll probably ever see in my life, but its far from over. We are yet to see how we respond to our first defeat during a week which also see's a cup semi final 2nd leg and then away FA cup tie. Of course we could win all three games. However, simply to say we've shown we're fine without Sanchez is not a reason for not signing him to have an impact in the future tense. It also ensures Utd are stronger which I believe means less of a margin of error - because the evidence in football is that very few teams go on a run for the whole season like the one we've been on.

- We should walk away from the deal because of the money involved

2. I ask this hypothetically - say KDB and his agent want 370k for his next contract but City offer 350k. KDB's agent informs us that Madrid will offer 400k. So he turns it down. Do we really believe the majority of people on here would simply say - its too much money? Well done to the club for taking a stand, being principled and thinking about squad harmony. I doubt it. I suspect we'd question the ambition of the club because we'd fear losing him. And of course he is younger, and is a key part of our team and one takes into account the value of the player, but the point nonetheless, is its fickle to apply this to one player and not others as the basis for an argument.

- We need to think of KDB's contract and the impact this might have on the team spirit/collective

3. Its as logical to argue that the club could tell KDB - were signing Sanchez and we're paying him the top wage to become top earner because in the short term it ensures we strengthen when in 4 competitions, makes the team stronger, and ensures he doesn't improve our direct rival. Put an arm round him and tell him his next contract will make him top earner if that matters to him and thats what he's worth. Unless the truth here is we genuinely can't afford it - and that we can't compete financially. Maybe that is the truth, I don't know but Id question that because the whole strategy since 2008 has been to grow, aggressively, and become one of the leading European clubs which means being prepared to financially compete with the very top clubs when going toe to toe with them over a player. That isn't the same as signing Walker or Mendy, It is evidenced by offering a stronger or as strong a financial package as a top European club which Utd are.

- He shook his hand on a deal or agreed to join us and so we should walk away because he and his agent have had their heads turned

4. Again, we don't know this for fact but if true, Id simply accept this is part of modern football. If we don't like it, then we shouldn't be complicit in it as fans. Sanchez I suspect probably does have an affinity to Pep, but something has happened here and we should have responded here in a way which makes him want to play for City not because he'd have some affinity for us - he wouldn't, but because we are the best place for him, we value him more than Utd do, and we're prepared to pay him the top money to evidence it.

- He isn't worth the money at 29, and is on the decline

5. I think football is going to sadly itself prove this to be inaccurate.

Regardless of all this, so far this season has been the most astonishing thing I've ever seen supporting City. I've never felt prouder, and I'll be there cheering us on at the weekend. I hope I'm wrong and that this isn't a critical and potential season defining moment even if I think it is. But I think some of this self deception, nostalgic romanticism and hypocritical stuff should stop. And once this thread has closed, we can all move on and evaluate the impact.

But Jamie Vardy? Seriously. Please. Just seriously. Have a serious look at yourself.

Are you my twin.

All that work pep has done, getting rid of egos. Sanchez is not right for us after everything that’s gone on this week. Playing us off against that shower of shit up the road is unforgivable !! You want United, you go there I say !!

It’s the game playing I cant tolerate !!

rags doing what the rags have always done, splashing the cash, they know no other way, trying to buy success.
