Because it would mean there's less of a gap between the basic salaries of our lowest paid senior players & our highest paid senior players, rather than our lower paid seniors being paid peanuts for basic plus loads of performance add ons.
We'll also naturally pay more given our well publicised financial status, so any players that turn out to be poor signings will be hard to shift as they're known publicly as an expensive failure.
Mate we can't give them away half the time because of the salaries. We end up loaning them and paying a chunk of their wages. I don't doubt we have performance related pay. Most clubs will. I don't doubt that ours may be structured so basic wages are a bit lower than you may expect but there is no way Aguero or Silva is taking home £100k basic a week. Players would prefer a guaranteed salary over a performance one.
