Given that, according to Mullock we first approached Arsenal in May, I don't see what else we could have really done.

A transfer request would have changed nothing. Arsenal already knew he wanted out. Coutinho And Van Dijk both submitted transfer requests. Where are they both now?

In all seriousness, as much as I wanted us to sign him this window I don't want us to sign him next summer. It feels like our RVP moment and I just feel like by next summer that is gone. He's a player who can offer a couple of exceptional seasons that few others can, but by next summer one of those will be gone, other options will become available and we won't have the budget restrictions we have this season.
