I am saying 6 months ago we were prepared to pay 60 million for the fee alone, now we can get the whole package, fee and wages, for the price we were prepared to pay just for the transfer fee alone 6 months ago. Is he a lesser player now than 6 months ago?

I am saying if we know for certainty he will only sign for us we can stand firm. If however we lose him to the rags on principle and pride then it seems daft, but I will be happy whatever path the club take.

Exactly. I remain befuddled by how many people don't seem to understand this. Or, worse, seem to think that by negotiating tough we are now a "complacent" side.
