Alexis Sanchez

I think people are deluding themselves if they think a) Sanchez to United might not yet happen and b) that United were only trying to call City’s bluff.

They’re paying a lot of money to get a very good player, but ultimately they can afford it even if the sums involved are ridiculous. As Guardiola said, we’ll find another solution.

Whilst I agree with you, that the rags want Sanchez rather than want to stop us getting him, the numbers involved are somewhat bewildering if true. Why would they have to double our wage over. Surely if we were offering the reported £250/300k per week why do they have to go to £500k? Surely £350/400k is enough of a difference.

Likewise with the fee with Arsenal. We supposedly offered £20m. Why pay £30m when arsenal have no objective but to take the highest bid in the situation. Especially as Wenger seems happier with him going the rags than to us. Surely they could match our bid and the better wages would be enough?

Agent fee? We offered £5m (again conjecture) but the rags are offering £10m. Why not £6m. Surely even in an agents world £1m is a worthwhile difference.

Totally accept he is going there, totally happy with our clubs stance but something doesn’t seem right. And I fully expect any interviews to have the brief that “once United came in there was only one club for me” vibe to them and that, and this will be a lie but will be in there “could have earnt more money elsewhere”

I’m disappointed we didn’t get him, and I think he’ll do well over there and will improve them.
But, I don’t think a left sided forward is a priority for them and I don’t believe they would have thrown that kind of money at him if he wasn’t on his way to City.
The way we are playing this season has shaken them to the core and they are desperate to get one over on us.

Given that there's lots of off topic stuff going on, on this thread anyway, I thought I'd join in with a further diversion.

In an attempt to escape tonight's speculation about Sanchez etc., I watched (unusually for me) Eastenders which as you know we London boys, dahhn sarrf just love.

Anyway, we have a thing down here that unlike possibly other drinking games, we start drinking when the opening theme tune starts but we are bound to stop drinking should any character within the 30 minute programme, smiles or laughs.

By and large we drink through to blissful oblivion.

As I say, I know this is off topic, but you might find it light relief.

PS I'm pissed...
That's impressive.

The agents will really take the piss out of them now. A player half as good as Sanchez will now be on 250k a week they will argue and rightly so. It’s only this year the choke hold has started to losen on us, can’t see us getting tied down to massive wages for unproven or ageing players in a hurry. I’ll pray to any god that will listen if peg gets all the cash he desires and still fails, it would finish him. Utd aside he’s a horrible man and the only reason we are told to love him by the media is because he gives them plenty of tripe to write about without needing to think. “Box office”? Piss off.

A player they had previously shown little interest in ? You may be right but it smacks of panic buying to me and I reckon there will be more than a fair amount of buyers remorse. Usually, as far as City are concerned I'm a pessimist but I see this a great big plus. It should galvanise the team, put our foot on the accelerator, and get us over the line ahead of time.
It's a statement purchase with a lot of dick swinging about it but very short sighted if you ask me, from a business point of view it could cost them big time for years to come.

Surely that’s obvious? Sanchez clearly would’ve preferred to come to City, so the only way United could entice him was to offer considerably more money?

Either that or they"re shit at poker, they've played it like holding a royal flush after the flop and just gone all in

But that doesn’t explain the transfer fee? Granted the wage might turn his head but then why the need to pay arsenal more than they were accepting off us? Again especially given Wengers comment that he seems happier taking their money than ours.

Just got in from the pub, and saw Pep's recent quotes about upsetting the squad. Is anyone else just so proud about the way the club went about this whole process?! I have this great satisfaction, and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's a great example moving forward that if you don't want to truly be here, then we aren't worried about stepping away, or Alexis attitude occasionally. IDK, he is a wonderful player, and one that might give us fits, but, I am so content with the way the club has gone about this. In years past, this might have felt like a "miss", but now, it feels more like a confident shot-across-the-bow to anyone who thinks we just pay for what we want. Singin' the blues!
