Alexis Sanchez

If Arsenal were better managed they'd sell Sanchez now, and buy a young player like Sane or Jesus who can go on to be the next Sanchez.

Situation is different for City, we need a player for the here and now, but I would not be too upset if were to lose out on him. I watched Australia v Chile yesterday and apart from a couple of moments Australia effectively dealt with him. He was playing wide left, and because Australia needed to win by 2 clear goals they threw men forward exposing themselves to counter-attacks, and Sanchez of old would have had a field day. He really struggled to beat his man. There were a couple of moments of great quality, but overall he was getting very frustrated.
He's carrying an ankle injury and was run into the ground by Arsenal, another reason to come to a club that can rest him.

Good god man, he's just come off the back of a long season and he's had no rest.
I know that, but he lacked the 5th gear he used to have. That's not tiredness. Arsenal and Barcelona have had his best years. I know he has other aspects to his game apart from his speed, and he's had another great season but like Aguero I think the trajectory of his game is downwards

Be careful a few on here wrote Silva off a year ago. A rest can revitalise a player - football is being ruined by the schedule the authorities are imposing on the players. Why are England playing bloody friendlies in the middle of June?

I know he's been struggling with injury but would that affect his speed? I doubt it. I know he's a great player but all great players dip. We bought Aguero and Toure at the right time, but I wouldn't buy either player now. I am a bit ambivalent about buying Sanchez because I can see that age is beginning to impact on his game. He can do a lot more apart from play as a winger of coure, but we have players inside who can do that. As forwards get old, they drop deeper to find space. That is exactly what he has done to great effect at Arsenal this season. Against Chile, he stayed out left and was ineffective. I very much doubt that Pep would want him to play the all action game he does at Arsenal. he'd want his wide players to stay wide and Sanchez isn't able to do that as well now.

I don't think he was playing against Chile ;-)
More to the point I don't think Pep has one way of playing with wide players at Bayern his wide players came inside a lot. Even last season Sterling came in quite a bit as a right sided forward. With faster and more dynamic full backs and Sanchez being right footed I would be surprised if we get him if he was to be pushed permanently wide.

True but I thnk he has reached a point where his speed is going and he's coming deeper and looking to play in midfield. At Arsenal he's everywhere driving the game. I think he could carry on doing that as he has great overall quality, but if we're looking to slot him in as a wide forward then forget it. That part of his game is going.

You guys are awfully fast to start declaring how Sanchez is on a downwards slope physically. He is only 28 FFS and is on top of his game for the next couple of years at least. How about he just had a single sub optimal game against Australia?
