Am I the only person not expecting any sort of statement from Sanchez directly after tonights final ?
Just because he has stated he will let us know his outcome, he surely has to go back to Arsenal and discuss this ... unless he has already been given the green light and knows he will be leaving with their "blessing".

Completely agree. I think those expecting an announcement this evening are going to be disappointed.

If Chile win tonight you imagine he'll spend his time celebrating the victory and keep the focus on Chile in interviews, not making any big movements as far as his future is concerned.

They could easily decide to make him see out the final year of his contract on the basis that a club at this late stage is unlikely to be able to bring in a player who could score and create as many as he does. It depends on the players attitude and how his game progresses.

if I were Arsenal I would sell, if I were City, and I really believed a striker was needed, I'd be looking at younger players. Sanchez is a player for now - for both City and Arsenal, but not for 18 months down the line. From City's standpoint there are bigger demands in the short term, and better striking options in the long term. But City have clearly decided we want him so that's really irrelevant.
What is this "at this late stage" bit? Window only opened yesterday, lmao.

There's a few things I don't understand with this post.

Firstly, you would rather see us sign a younger forward than Sanchez because that would make us better in the 'long-term', but where does that leave Sterling, Sane and Jesus all players bought for the long-term?

Secondly, who are all these younger players who ability wise are on par with Sanchez and represent better value?

Thirdly, Sanchez is a 28 year old coming into the peak of his ability, not a 33 year old looking for a swansong contract. Do you really think that players in the calibre of Sanchez, who's game doesn't wholly rely on pace, will be finished at the age of 30?

Finally, we haven't even mustered a title challenge in the past three seasons. Shouldn't the priority be assembling the best possible squad to win the PL rather than go overkill on the long-term vision?

Here's the way I see it. Sanchez is almost on par with Aguero, we sign him and we have two of the three best forwards in the PL. I'd be majorly surprised if any of our players, bar Kun, contribute to more goals than Sanchez next season.

Let's turn the likes of Sterling, Sane and Jesus into serial winners, that is what will take them to next level. I'd much rather they compete with someone like Kun and Sanchez who are currently better players than them than someone with a similar current ability to them.
Sanchez does not wholly rely on pace, but he does in part, and it will deteriorate to the point where he will go into midfield and he is already doing that. It would be a short term signing. I'd rather City buy the best young players who can grow with the club.

I get the argument that the short term is important and we need to challenge for the title, but I dispute the short term benefit that Sanchez has over Aguero. I don't think there's much in it. 5 is better than 4 but it would be a small improvement compared to bigger benefits to be had elsewhere. To spell it out, had we not been in for Sanchez, I think we could have bought VVD by now. And then in 12 months I'd go for the next Mbappe

+1
Nothing will be said tonight

I am hoping that he has already told Wenger that he only wants to sign for City, and that he won't sign a new contract at Arsenal .

Ball in their court.

Nah................far too straightforward !

Opened 26th May
Stop being pedantic mate, you know exactly what we were referring to, I could quote hordes of links to stories saying it opened 1st July - point remains the same though, we are hardly at a "late stage" that Marv is talking nonsense about.

I'm not being pedantic. It just didn't open yesterday.

You can link to whatever poorly researched stories you want though. This one trumps that:

Marvin is hyperbolic as usual though, you're right there. But Marvin has nailed his colours to the 'not buying Sanchez' mast and so posts many reasons why it won't happen, none of which I agree with.
