Updated, with the important stuff, to today;
Timeline/Recap;
- Maks Cardenas, a Chilean journalist who first broke Bravo to City last year, reported Pep's interest in Alexis Sanchez in February.
- Cardenas updated in early April that if it's Sanchez's choice, he wants to go to City.
- Several ITKs on Blue Moon report City are making Sanchez a top target this summer, including @tolmie's hairdoo
- Bayern Munich are linked to Sanchez by several mainstream media publications in the UK and Germany, including BILD.
- Cardenas updates in early May that Sanchez still wants City, but Arsenal want to push for Bayern. Sanchez's agent also favours a Munich move, as his other headline client, Arturo Vidal, plays there.
- More updates in May about Alexis from Cardenas writing for Chilean media corp Coopertiva about Sanchez having his heart set on being reunited with Pep, but Arsenal pushing hard.
- Reports emerge in the media, likely leaked by Arsenal, that the gooners offer to make Sanchez the highest paid player in the PL, increasing his £180k per week wage to £280k per week.
- By late May, Bayern seemingly take a step back in pursuit of Sanchez with their chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitting, in an interview with BILD, the club couldn't afford to compete with the money being offered as wages.
- Several UK journalists, including Sam Lee, maintain City remain confident of landing Sanchez and a meeting allegedly takes place, to that effect, in London at the end of May.
- June 1st, Cardenas updates via Twitter that Sanchez is close to a move to a new "City". Arsenal still pushing, however, for him to go to Munich.
- Also June 1st, Gerard Romero reports Sanchez will be a City player in "a few days". Romero is a Catalonian radio host with close connections to Barca, and, in particular, Guardiola. Last year he was the first to break the news of Stones, Sane, Jesus and Nolito, to City.
- @mattyb posts to say Sanchez's people have been reportedly looking for housing in Manchester for a number of weeks.
- Cardenas tweets again later that day with a contemplative picture of Sanchez, which he captioned "City or Bayern?" When pressed which it is, he says City.
- By June 2nd, SportsBILD report Bayern and PSG are out on Sanchez and only City remain. Munich-mouthpiece Kicker, in their print edition, however insist the Bayern board are willing to blow up the club's current wage structure to accommodate Sanchez's demands, which would be potentially in excess of double their current highest paid star.
- In two weeks, the print edition of Kicker retracts the above assertion and states categorically that Bayern will not meet Sanchez's payment expectations.
- Come late June, Bayern openly drop out of the race with both Rummenigge and Ancelotti, in separate press conferences, stating they would be looking elsewhere for more affordable options this window.
- Meanwhile, several trusted sources in the media, with official connections in Arsenal, start mentioning for the first time that Sanchez could leave this summer. Most notably, the input of the BBC's David Ornstein (the so-called "Ornacle") who tweeted that Sanchez had been made a sizable offer by Arsenal but, if he's set on leaving, he would leave this year. Ornstein threw in a hashtag of MCFC at the end.
- Further, the Telegraph's Matt Law posited that Sanchez could stay but Arsenal would be unlikely to hold onto Sanchez and see him walk for free in a year, even though the only realistic landing spot appears to be City.
- At the end of June, Sanchez has a press conference with, who else, fellow Chilean (and City goalkeeper) Claudio Bravo following their Confederations Cup semi-final victory over Portugal. When asked if he would be joining Bravo at City, Sanchez laughed and said he couldn't answer that but he knew where was going and all would be made clear after the Confed Cup.
- Bravo stated he would like to see Sanchez at City, but that it was Alexis's decision in the end.
- Arsenal ITKs on Arsenal Mania start reporting Sanchez is off to City, notably HughWizzy who first broke the news and details of Wenger's contract extension.
