Alexis Sanchez

Best outcome for City, although it doesn't seem like Pep would agree, is if Alexis signs his mega-contract offer at Arsenal and City sign a player in a position City need to strengthen.
Where does City need to Strengthen?

Where does City need to Strengthen?

We,including you,all know Marvins opinion on this matter,as this thread has already been taken off topic several times by him stating it.

There are other threads to discuss transfers in a broader sense, please use them.

Thanks.

He will definitely improve us without a doubt but just a few points
if he plays on the right sterling will have to sit out, if he plays in the middle aguero will have to sit out as pep prefers jesus over him and presuming jesus playing on left. with sanchez being in the eleven sane will have to sit out as well most probably. Sterling and sane are 2 youngsters we have invested heavily in will they be happy to play as back up? and where would it leave aguero?

The faact that one on one he can't beat a man for pace any more. A problem if you are a wide forward. He's like Yaya in our last title winning season and you do not replace someone like Aguero with a player in a similar position to him.

Guardiola is under massive pressure next season. I can see why he would want him. Part of me does too. But I also have a doubt. Not convinced it would be a good deal long term. Get the full backs and a central defender in. If we want a replacement for Aguero, then get Mbappe or Dembele. Not a player who will be like a RVP for 12 months.
Strangely, I agree with you on this.
We we have a difference of opinion over Sanchez. I don't thnk he will last 3-5 seasons. His game has always been about pace and power. He's lost the explosive pace. He'snow a goal scorer and isn't that special out wide. I prefer Aguero or Jesus up front. He also likes to drop deep, but we have KDB and Silvas for that. I am sure he will be playing n 3 - 5 years but not at the current level.

You remember Toure 2-3 seasons ago? That is where I think Sanchez is now, so I have my doubts over whether he would be a good buy

If it does not affect our plans for other players then that isn't so bad, but I am not sure about that. This is a trophy signing that appeals to fans, but I want to win the league next season. Best way of doing that is using the £50m ear-marked for Sanchez and sticking it down on VVD. I suspect it's already too late now in that regard as the central defender targets lined up seem fanciful.
I agree with your analysis on Sanchez but disagree with your analysis of what we need.

I think we need more attacking players than we do defensive ones (barring replacing departing defenders... I.e 3 fullbacks). Sure what we need offensively might already be here in Sterling, Sane and Gabriel. And if they push on. But it shouldn't shouldn't be assumed they will.

Everyone tot Martial and Kelechi were going to push on to be great a year ago. A year later and they are both touch and go.

Our defense has stayed consistent, so has our possession. Our scoring however did deep considerably from the 1st half of he season to the 2nd.

So attacking, creating and converting are way higher priorities than defending. At least based on last years performance.

You get the players in who you prioritise. We haven't prioritised a central defender. It doesn't look that way anyway. Whether Alexis marginally improves City I do not care for. It is arguable as to whether he would add to City because you can only play 11. But I am nowhere near as confident as you in Stones and Otamendi. 12 months ago, many fans thought Kompany was finished. Thankfully they were wrong. But I really doubt he will play more than 30 plus games and we really need to strengthen that position.

And we don't know if we will or won't buy a CB but we sure as shit have time to do so.

We all appreciate the risk of relying on Vinnie to be fit. However, with Vinnie and new FB's and keeper, our defence should be good enough; whereas, the last two seasons have alos proved that we are not clinical enough upfront and scoring more will benefit us at both ends of the park. Adding someone of the quality of Sanchez would be a major step forward imo. I think we need an extra top of the range striker more than we need a new CB but ideally, we want both.

Keep calm & buy them all ITS NOT YOUR MONEY so just go with it.

We need players like Sanchez so if that means rotating Aguero Jesus then that's fine by me far to many opportunities were missed last season & Sanchez will make a big difference.

I also think City have our targets all wrapped up they just don't want it public till we agree our outgoings.

Sanchez wants City Simples!!

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion and you are a smart guy so ignore anyone who gives you crap. Just shows themselves up to be honest.

That said I don't agree that he'll have less freedom at City. I think he'll dictate his own role because Pep will have that much faith in his maturity as a player familiar with Pep's system.

But he could be a flop too as anyone could be. Hope not. Hope he's phenomenal.

You might find that every City player has less freedom next season. That is going to be one of the interesting things to watch for. With a revamped squad, will Pep be stricter than he appeared to be last season over positional play?

I think he will but that may not mean players cannot swap position but that they will have to stay in the right zone having done so.

I completely disagree with this.

We haven't even mustered a title challenge for the last 3 seasons and last season we struggled to score goals. Signing one of the top players in the PL who will pretty much guarantee 20+ goals and 10+ assists is a no brainer. There is also the winning mentality he will bring and experience that he can give to the likes of Sterling and Sane.

The only question any City fan should ask is whether signing Sanchez gives us a better chance of winning Trophies. I think it's blatantly obvious that he does and therefore anything else is irrelevant.
That's a point that has no counter :)

Think hes definitely coming to us.
He had the perfect opportunity yesterday to he was happy at arsenal and was going to sign a new contact but didnt. All he did was confirm he knows where his future is. The Bravo interview was telling as well with Bravo saying he would be more than welcome at City. Also if he had signed a new contract we would of walked away and told the press by now but as it stands those in the know are saying we're still balls deep for him. I believe it could be done by the end of next week

Arsenal could just ignore our bid, or knock it back. I doubt it will be that easy.

he's right this time mate.

He couldn't be more wrong...

Sanchez won't be playing as our number 9, he's 3rd in line behind aguero and Jesus, he's also wasted there. He'll play left of the 3 with sane shifting from both flanks, depending on the opposition..... for me personally I think it's the wrong signing as I believe sane will be a revelation next year, I think he'll suffer if he's rotated too much...

he's right this time mate.

Except he's clearly not.

The post you agreed with is one of the worst he's made, as if Sanchez pushing someone to the bench wouldn't make us stronger.

He thinks this is an 11 man game, and it's not. Care to remember the bench for the Monaco away game? We had no one on it good enough to change the game.

Remember Sané so exhausted in the cup semi final that he was refusing the ball? We desperately depth up front.

And then he goes on to pretend like signing Sanchez makes us less likely to buy Mendy and Walker which he knows is bulkshit but has to use because he's got no other legitimate points.

Similar to how he keeps calling him 29 when he's 28, and claims he can't beat a player anymore despite beating more than Sterling or Sané last season.

When someone's argument relies so much on false assumptions and needs embellishing then it's not a good one, and they aren't going to be right.

I don't think Marvin is being overly ridiculous tbh. On the wing we have a lot of quality and up front we do as well. But that's not the point. A parallel argument (forgetting age) would be to say why are we signing silva when we already have silva kevin and gundogan.its all about options when you want to fight on all fronts. That means two top players in every position and so 22 top players at least in the squad. That's something we have never had before and as a result we haven't been able to challenge for the premier league and champions league in the same season. Sanchez is one of the best players in the premier league and will improve us while ridding another premier league team of their best player. It's a no brainer for me. Plus the fact he is a proven winner, something we need more of.

And this whole we need to prioritise the defence argument is a load of nonsense. Yes of course we do, but this isn't football manger. It looks like we are also on the verge of signing 3 fullbacks and will be signing a centre back. Why does signing Sanchez have anything to do with our defensive targets. We have a budget, and attached to that budget is a set of players we have/will be targeting. I don't think txiki sits looking at a list thinking fuck I really want to sign bonucci but I want Sanchez more.
