Alexis Sanchez

Unless Sanchez forces the issue a January move would be my bet, assuming we are still interested. I don't buy the loyalty bonus stuff - we could easily compensate him for its loss. If he wants to move now it really is down to him.

Overall it feels like Wenger has convinced the Arsenal board that Sanchez will continue to perform but if he doesn't they can still sell in January. It's a huge risk for Arsenal on a number of fronts.
I'd say no chance. Why would City do that when he's a free transfer a few months later? Why would Sanchez write of a huge signing on fee? I think it's now or never for him. If we are a little concerned about issues in our squad he must have grave concerns about Arsenal's title chances this year.

I cannot see the benefit in them keeping him. By the time the second half of the season comes along he will be thinking that he will want to keep himself fit if he is to get a big contract elsewhere, plus he is looking to go to the World Cup. Not forgetting Arsenal will miss out on a large chunk of money.

Think he might be getting Sigurdsson and Llorente mixed up. Sigurdsson is certainly not a striker, neither is he big or strong or that good a goalscorer. In fact most of his goals come from set-pieces if i'm not mistaken. We already have 3 (maybe 4 including Gundo) playmakers better than Sigurdsson.

You may just be right lol!

I basically agree. There's a slim chance of a January deal if it's on the right terms for us and we feel that we can't wait 6 months. Either way the risks of keeping Sanchez far outweigh the potential upside for Arsenal.

Agree that it's likely now... but do not agree that if not now it's never. IMO it's now or next year on a free - Arsenal aren't stupid though - so I think that we'll sign Sanchez just as the current window comes to a close.

looking at that bench above shows how hard it will be to add another player or 2.

Already, we don't have a backup CB able to make the bench.
Assume for a second we added Sanchez. That send someone to the bench. Mist likely a CB. Lets say Otamendi.

So we'd have a bench of
Otamendi
Danilo
Sane
Sterling
Silva
Gundogan

Which leaves no Yaya or Dihno (whichever one doesn't start) in the stands. Add Mbappe, and it is simply untenable

I think Arsenal and Wenger have painted themselves into a corner. My guess is that Wenger's strategy was to hold out until a foreign club came in with a decent bid. If that doesn't happen he then has to hold onto a disguntled player in the final year of his contract or sell to City. It would take a huge climbown for them to sell to City and it wouldnt surprise me if they take the irrational option and keep him.

If he wanted to move as much as we are led to believe he does, then he needs to hand in a transfer request and get this transfer moving.
He doesn't. He is like most players, want to move but aren't cry babies.

The least we can do is respect that.

How often are all of our senior players available? There's usually 2 or 3 missing.

It matters not a jot if arsenal got a decent bid from a foreign team if Sanchez refuses to sign for them

Exactly, but when you look in some muppet threads they still want new half fucking team ffs, like that 1 fecker in VVD thread lol

Get with the programme. We are dropping David Silva and Aguero. With a bit of luck we might get some mugs offer us £10m each for the pair.

Gundo aguero kompany all at risk of months out. I agree we have strong depth but injuries suspensions rotation, with a fully fit roster, having potential starters in your reserves is a beautiful thing. Especially in the epl

Well it seems that article by Matt Lawton was @Ric suggested, speculative and no bids as of yet have gone in.

The club would have briefed the press as not interested. But we all know he's the missing piece in the jig saw.

Perhaps another poster could help me out with this. It's City's MO to get the player on board first before making an approach to the seller.

It seems reasonable to me that City would have been given an indication if Sanchez was prepared to put in a transfer request?

Having said that, Pep is not keen on players having a tantrum to force a move.

The only conclusion we can take from this is that we are waiting for Arsenal to relent to the attractiveness of £50/£60 million.

With Wenger's continued reluctance to sell a deal looks far from happening.

Do you mean "untenable" in the sense that we have enough already? The club seems to be going down the route of "only the strongest survive".

We will have our fair share of injuries and suspensions. You need a good squad to go for all competitions.

"only the strongest survive" - within the squad, you mean??

Not at all!
It's the opposite: we need them all to be competitive on the highest level in 4 competitions over a very long and tough season.

Having a squad of 21 very good players who don't want to be left out is not easy, right.
But rotation is key. That means we want to optimize players' resources through rotation. This will give City a competitive advantage.
The other one is the bench which has been recognized in the matchday thread.
Rotation isn't much fun for Pep if you have Nolito, Navas, Nacho, Clichy, Bony or Delph on the bench. That would neither be rotation nor a frightening bench.

And don't forget the different quality and setup of opponents. Everyone will have enough games.
