Alexis Sanchez

Eh? Over the last dozen games (end of last season and start of this) he's done all the things you claim he's poor at brilliantly. It's his goal scoring that has let him down and led to all the cries to drop him.

I agree that it's been so much better than I figured it would be both this year and last. I think he's caught in two minds at the moment and that's why the conversion rate has dropped. We're basically talking about the perfect forward... I'm not anti Aguero at all. I think Sanchez and Jesus are better for Pep though. He'll get better throughout the year and we'll have all three anyway!

Really good read. Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing that!

Makes me have more respect for him in some aspects. I do agree with the maturity portion of the article, if it's true. At 28, he should be showing more leadership qualities, regardless of his determination to not form any strong friendships amongst his teammates. When you're purchasing someone at that point in their career, you're not just buying them for their skill but their ability to guide the younger members of the squad. And given the fact we've drastically reduced the average age of the team, if I was Pep, this would be an expectation I would make known to Sanchez before he puts pen to paper. Really hope we can get this deal across the line.

You can't change peoples personalities just like that, the guy seems to be determined loner in the mould of a ruthless wild west gunslinger and that's how he plays his football. If I were Pep, I'd just be happy if he came and scored a shit load of goals and assists for us.

I guess the way I interpreted the article, it made it sound as if it wasn't so much his natural personality that took him down that path as it was the advice he was given when he was playing at Cobreloa.

"We immediately advised him to protect his private life, and not to speak with journalists," Tapia recounted in Olea's book, Alexis: El Camino de un Crack. Sanchez has followed those words ever since, keeping his interactions with the media to a minimum. That also extends to how he carries himself with teammates."

I guess it's completely possible that the advice altered the course of his personality and that's just how he is now. But either way, I agree if he scores a shit load of goals and assists, that's not a bad alternative. :)

My impression is that Aguero's conversion rate has slipped but I have not attempted to compile stats on it. I am sure they are out there if anyone can be bothered.

It's fairly simple, since Peps arrival we have been facing more teams looking to park the bus (ffs even the rags did at the Etihad!) that means the chances we are creating are more difficult simply due to the congestion in the penalty area. Chances are less likely to be clear cut in this scenario and you will have less time to finish. Despite this, Kun still scored 30 goals ffs and he scored on the opening day too! Too many of our fans seem to keen to write off our players. I am seeing a player in Kun who is doing more pressing than ever and far from in decline.

There's literally no drop off in goals or our points haul with Sergio out over a many year/game sample. What's your opinion on this? Surely that's not an anomaly? Shouldn't there be a tangible drop off? There clearly was when KDB was injured a few years back.

I just think analyzing stats without considering the. cirumstances, tells you very little. Like watching YouTube higlights and not actually watching games. How many starts; how many minutes; which were the opponents; was he carrying a knock; had he just returned from international duty; was he match sharp after a ban or injury? Without considering all these things, stats are of little value.

Sergio has blown hot and cold all his time here at City, with barren patches (for him) followed by goal fests. What I do know is that I have watched both players over several years and I'd take Aguero over Sanchez every day of the week.
Great that we may have both then isn't it.

Let's be honest mate unless you're Guardiola no ones got a clue whether he's going to sign of not. Don't have a go at people for being optimistic though. If he signs he signs, if not then it was all a load of bollcoks. Won't know until the window closes.

Very tired of hearing this "confident of signing Sanchez" line. When from here, it seems like things are standing still. Can't wait for the window to close. Only 1 week now and we'll know the truth.

agreed! considering alexis was a prime target then we should have been more forceful earlier on in the window? then it would have allowed us to move on quicker if required.

Aguero... isn't effective at distribution, coming up to receive the ball (build up), and creating chances for others.

That might have been true before Pep arrived, but it most certainly is not true now. And incidentally Pellegrini spent 3 years telling Sergio not to come deep and to rely on playmakers to feed him the ball.

But have you not seen how much he's improved his build up play since last season? Against Everton even, he was excellent at all the things you describe. His pass to Silva's fluffed chancevwas sublime, as was the lay off for Sterling. And when he comes deep, he always retains the ball. He's brilliant.

That just makes it more likely to happen that we haven't moved on ..because we're confident,ha..

Wenger still reiterating that he expects Sanchez to be an Arsenal player when the window closes.
