Yet again we cut our nose off to spite our face.

Extremely short sighted approach.

A chance to strengthen while in a position of strength spurned once more.

And letting him go to them of all people.

Pep will be fine with this in front of the cameras. Behind the scenes I don't think he will be happy at all. All that work for nothing..unless we have genuinely got someone better lined up for a good deal but that would be very difficult.
Peps mantra has always been that he only wants players who want to be here. Only person he will be missed at is Sanchez.

For me, it’s another sign of the Rags’ fall.

They have to offer Sanchez utterly stupid money to make themselves appealing to join.

How about that history eh?

They won't give a shit. They can easily afford it and it makes their attack so much stronger which will only help them in the games to come.

Yeah, quite possibly. I do actually think a midfielder is more important than a forward tbh. An injury to Fernandinho would leave us in big trouble.
If Jesús is not so severely injured then you can certainly make a case that a CB or DM is more important. People said we didn't go for VVD because we were wanting Sanchez more.
Well presumably now we should get the midfielder. It means Dinho doesn't have to play every game. Also if we lose a CB Dinho can drop back without disruption to the midfield.

Wouldn't just be KDB. We have a number of incredible players currently loving being at the club but could play for pretty much anyone else in the world if they so wished. The damage it could do on various levels to introduce a player on significantly higher wages at this point doesn't bear thinking about.

Nail on head.

If Pep wanted Txiki to chuck 60 mil at Sanchez, then Txiki would have signed him last week.

I read somewhere that we were close to the maximum spend we could use from Sky and BT money. If so perhaps that influenced our stick in the 20´s bid ?

City are clearly operate within budgets. The highest price we have ever paid is £54M for KDB. We have not so far paid stupid figures like the Pogba £90M. We do not throw money away. We decide what someone is worth based on age and salary and that is it. I see some are saying we should have signed VVD and Sanchez in the summer. Wasn't it the case that because we thought we were signing Sanchez we didn't have the budget to buy another centre-back or full back which was originally intended (we had of course already bought several other players).

I agree with you upto a point, but while its easy to say it shows united have fallen.

We also miss out for the second time in 8months on a player Pep seems to rate and wanted.

From a City standpoint there is no way we can put a good spin on it. The club played hardball and lost

If the situation is that City refused to move from 'a final offer' then we might miss out on Sanchez but next time a club or player see us as a soft touch they might just take us seriously. Roles have reversed now City have a fantastic squad not just a team that can be seen by players as offering nailed on future success. A younger striker offered this and a competitive salary will find the offer from City very attractive. Situation with Sanchez is completely different, the rags haven't got a team that's performing never mind a decent squad so they can be easily screwed by a player on their last chance of a final big payday.
