Alisson Becker - The Myth

Firstly, Ederson is far more than a keeper-sweeper and is much closer to a deep lying pivot with the ball at his feet. As a distributor he is unique, in a class of his own but it is right to argue that the rest of the team make this possible by giving him options almost everywhere on the pitch! Yesterday Liverpool failed spectacularly on at least two occasions to give Alisson any real options at all, and that too was down to our lads. I noticed that when we scored our first goal we had 5 of our lads in the Liverpool area to 7 reds - but our lads were all round Alisson whereas theirs were all over the place so what was a very good save was almost certain to divert the ball to one of our lads. If we look at our second and third goals Alisson was literally playing with a hot potato. He is coached to "play out from the back" but on neither occasion had Liverpool brought enough players back to outnumber our players, who were cutting off the angles for any out ball. I have never seen City trying to play out without having at least one man more than our opponents but that Liverpool team were a shambles at the back. That may be a sharp lesson not to believe you can play two midfielders as CBs but Klopp's solution that Alisson boot it into the stand seems to suggest that the problem is even more fundamental. IMHO Alisson made blunders but he was aided and abetted by his team mates.

I said much the same, the media laying all the blame at his door was wrong, he was given no options for his 2 errors, other than klopp's "put in the stands", something I'm sure he's coached daily not to do.

I always find it odd when conversations about best keeper in the world pop up. For some reason, everyone seems to just forget than Jan Oblak exists. He's not the sweeper keeper that is in vogue now, but he's absolutely miles ahead of every other goalkeeper in terms of actual goalkeeping. I guess Atletico just aren't a sexy enough team for people to care about

His clean sheet record is ridiculous.

As for Alisson, he’s a very, very good keeper.

Buying Alisson did help Liverpool, a lot. If only because Mignolet was gash.

I really rate Alisson actually. I think he's an extremely solid albeit unspectacular keeper. He's actually been a bit below par this season statistically, but normally he's up there with the best.

However, his passing game has always been TREMENDOUSLY overrated. People were putting him up there on par with Ederson, which is ridiculous.

Also, some of you will feel really silly when in six weeks time the Massachusetts General Hospital release a press statement saying he was actually concussed yesterday.

I was going to put this in the Liverpool thread but it would be lost after a couple of pages and it needs discussing because I'm sick to death of hearing this media claim that is currently the biggest myth in football.

"Alisson Becker, the best goalkeeper in the world"

I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon of yesterday's horror show, but that clearly shows his ball playing ability is dogshit, so I ask on what evidence is this ridiculous claim based? I can hardly remember him making any saves of any consequence, he has only won the Golden Glove once (Joe Hart won it 4 times for God's sake!, with Ederson being the current holder) and his inability to defend his goal when his defence is not impregnable is bang average. Frankly I'd have De Gea over Alisson as he can occasionally save something.

Seriously would any person of sound mind who has seen both keepers play choose Alisson over Ederson?
The Brazilian national team coach?
