If you want to go ssomewhere cheap and hot, book a holiday to Lesbos
My brother in law has been with his family three years on the run and he's recommended it so highly we've booked for next year already

where in lesbos? i went to molyvos, its a nice old town, very hilly, crap beaches but ok sea and, of course, did get hot. the locals were very nice though. i don't know about cheap, because it seemed to have the same prices as other parts of greece.

All inclusive just means the local economy dies. No local restaurants, no local bars cos the English tourists are drinking "booze" that wouldn't get a puppy drunk and eating euro pap food in the hotel.

another very good post.

No it's not, it's nonsense. How about all the people that are employed by the hotel? Locals that have a job putting towels on chairs etc.

All inclusive is just to get 'bums on seats' so to speak. To fill occupancy. People would still go to a particular hotel though, that's why it's called a 'hotel'. And for locals putting tea towels on the chairs:
a) This doesn't happen
b) If it did happen, they'd probably not be locals.

It does affect the bar staff and the kitchen. Both get busy in an AI hotel. These jobs could be done in local restaurants instead, but they're not, because most people that go AI don't take spending money to eat out a few nights of their holiday (maybe 1 or 2)
Also most restaurants and tavernas only open in the evening anyway and it wouldn't make any difference as a lot of people in the hotels are half board and have their meal there. (although some eat out more frequently than they would if they were AI)

Try "A1 Travel" Dave. They'll undercut everyone else.
If you do end up getting the plastic cups on holiday, don't let them rip you off. Their favourite trick is when asking for say, vodka and coke, they pour them at the same time and hardly any vodka goes in. Just ask for vodka on it's own and you'll get half a cup-full. Then say "stick a bit of coke in as well mate". I did it every time and got fucking wrecked.

Seriously; If you're thinking about AI just bear in mind the loss of income for locals. The holiday company / hotel chain cash in big time and the local cafes etc lose out. All-inclusive is the holiday version of Tesco / Asda etc; they're killing local communities.

I take it you shop at local butchers, bakeries & fruit n veg shops then?

The big all inclusives in a remote part of cuba is a lot diferent to one in europe..

You were in Ibiza a couple of weeks before I went Bill. It seemed to me like it was on it's arse with a lot of derelict/shut down businesses.
