Not getting into the why and why nots, just that we all know when taggart digs his heels in he's a stubborn old codger, Rooney will never pull on the rag shirt again.
This means yoonited have to sell him, which means his price will be lower, they'll have to take the highest bid, even if it falls well short of their valuation of the player.
They can't exactly fall back on, "we'll let him rot in the stiffs, we don't need the money", because if ever there was a club that was skint, it's them right now.
I personally don't think City need him, but I don't run the team or the club !
so just buy him just to fuck them off

I'd piss myself if,after his meeting with gill, they put shrek on the transfer list expecting us to come in with a mega bid,and we show no interest at all.The thought of him doing a webster and them getting 5mil is much better than him coming to us.That's about 1 months interest to glazer. Also, the loss of his image rights will damage them even further.

Re: Nited have to sell

He's the scums last player they can sell for any value but considering they paid £30 million for him and everton get a selling fee they are not gonna make much on him.

Re: All things Rooney! [Merged]

is it possible that we buy him agree personal terms then he trains with us until january until we can register him as a player of our club?

Its definitely an option. I'd say the most likely one at this point.

Re: All things Rooney! [Merged]

If we got him cheap, cut price, less than 20 million say,
(re: my above post), it surely couldn't be regarded as a "bad" signing.
He's the right age for us, 25, that's one of the main factors in our player acquisition strategy so far.
The wages don't enter into it, they're all on massive wages now, any big name player now demands 100k + a week,

Re: All things Rooney! [Merged]

I don't like him but I guess if we can get him for 5 million under the webster ruling that he could be a decent understudy for Carlos

Re: All things Rooney! [Merged]

im at work, just thought i would ask if any news about the meetin between dumb and dumber earlyer? Any statements etc?

RAGS STATEMENT:

"We are aware that there is intense public and media interest on the club at the moment, but there are no developments of note to report today. I can confirm a number of meetings have taken place today, including with the player's representative. The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future. In the meantime, fans are asked to be patient."
Hmmm... Is it me or does this whole thing seem a bit staged? Wouldn't be surprised if it's all a stunt.

Wayne Rooney will enable Manchester City to 'win everything' says Carlos Tevez
Exclusive: Sheikh Mansour has personally asked Carlos Tévez whether he thinks Manchester City should sign Wayne Rooney with the striker fuelling the club owner’s appetite to pursue the audacious transfer by telling him: “with Wayne we will win everything”.

City are facing strong competition from Chelsea to sign the England striker who appears set to stay in the Premier League when he leaves Manchester United this January rather than consider a move abroad to Real Madrid.

Chelsea will make a lower bid than City but are convinced, according to sources, that they are ahead in the running right now despite the assumption that Rooney wants to remain in the north-west.

The Premier League champions believe that Sir Alex Ferguson would rather sell to them, even though they will bid only around £20 million, than City, who are expected to offer £35-40 million, and that the United manager has the authority to do the deal.

However there is an acceptance that Chelsea will have to convince Rooney’s wife Coleen to move south — which she is understood to be reluctant to do — while he is believed to be prepared to join Chelsea or City and has no qualms about either move.

Chelsea also believe they have an edge because of their track record of winning trophies, the experience of their squad and the reputation of their manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Nevertheless, and if money is a significant motivation for Rooney, they will not offer the same wages he would command at City even though they will pay him substantially more than he is receiving at United.

It is a sign of how seriously City are taking their bid for Rooney that they have consulted Tévez, a former United player, of course, who played alongside the 24-year-old for two seasons at Old Trafford.

It is also clear that Mansour does not want to upset Tévez who has endured a fractious relationship, at times, with City manager Roberto Mancini and who may fear that his role in the side will be usurped if Rooney is signed.

But Tévez, who is the City captain and has developed in the team’s most important player, is hugely enthusiastic about the prospect of Rooney’s arrival.

He greatly admires Rooney as a player but, also, the two are good friends with Rooney having often given Tévez lifts to training or to Manchester airport for away games when they played together.

It has been claimed that City may look to sell Tévez if they sign Rooney but the intention is to play both of them in the same side.

Signing Rooney would also relieve some of the pressure on Tévez who has carried the City attack this season with Emmanuel Adebayor out of form and out of favour and Roque Santa Cruz struggling.

Indeed City supporters may regard Rooney as a replacement, in terms of his aggression and work-rate, for Craig Bellamy who, similarly, had a strong relationship with Tévez.

The City striker’s enthusiastic response to the possibility of signing Rooney has encouraged Mansour to make a bid which may now prove decisive.

This has been at the back of my mind since this blew up - they´re so desperate to cling on that coont would resort to anything - surely though it would be exposed if were a stunt and ultimately backfire
