ALL things Rooney PLEASE! [Merged]

Re: Wayne Rooney is a liability

It's the typical over-the-top English media again. Rooney is quite a good player, nothing more nothing less. But the way the tabloids put it he's the greatest human being ever to grace a football pitch - which is of course absurd.
He very very seldom does it against the big teams and I honestly can't remember the last time he had a good game in an England shirt.

As for reaching his peak, I think he's over that now. This last season he had to single-handedly carry the rags and in the last two internationals he's looked jaded and tired, and when that happens he gets frustrated and starts to lose his temper (witness his petulance again today against the Japanese).

At the time of writing I don't think Rooney is a liability, but I seriously do believe he soon will be.

Re: Wayne Rooney is a liability

Rooney = class finisher and movement, an extremely high quality striker, England's only one, combined with 100% effort every match.

However, i'm not sure he's quite World Class (extremely close though), there's something missing in his general play. Maybe he tries too hard, lacks a bit of coolness and calmness with the ball, perhaps makes rushed and consquently the wrong decisions, until he gets near the goal, then he's clinical.

Re: Wayne Rooney is a liability

Yes he was /is a liability ,but look at the poor service from so called top players ala dead hard and fat frank atrotious , I`d have him at City tomorrow cos he plays with heart. But he was petulent ,time he grew up a bit.Its not the opposition player he needed to take it out on,but his own teamates if you didnt know you could of been watching championship football. Plug and Terry are lump merchants ,half that team that played wouldnt be in my squad. And Joe Hart was man of the match, what was all that about. Two top class saves,no tint in my glasses .

Re: Wayne Rooney is a liability

Comparisons this season with Messi we're absurd. He's still the one player that could carry us through to the latter stages of the competition though. As did Linekar in 86 and 90,and Big Al Shearer in the Euro 96 run to the semi final.

Crouch has a better goal to game ratio for England than Rooney!

Rooney isn't even the best striker in the Prem in my opinion, Drogba and a fit Torres are better.

He's great against Prem light weights but when was the last time he put in a great performance against a top European Team?

Arsenal away.

Re: Wayne Rooney is a liability

When Rooney plays for utd - I despise anybody who wears that shirt.

BUT - Wayne Rooney is the one player England (and that lot) have who is capable of turning a game single handedly.

His temperament is questionable, but the majority of great players have a sinister streak - and thats what sets them apart from the "not so good" players.

I too would have Rooney at City above any other player in football today - he is proven in the Premiership and WILL score goals if played in the correct system......

which could be our system - swap Ade for Rooney and have Tevez just behind him....... my days!!

Wayne Rooney, for all his flaws, is quality on the football pitch

Re: Wayne Rooney is a liability

Ah lads, he can loose the head a bit, but he's grown up, he's a lot of passion which he needs to be able to control, but he certainly has calmed it down a good bit.

He is in no means a liability, and would get on every team starting line up, no questions about that. He's an incredible player and it'd be stupid if ye didn't start him.
That said if ye don't want him, we'll take him back, sure he's technically our's anyway.
He's ours, we gave him to ye, I'm not sure when, but he's ours and quite frankly we'd like him back. Haha.

He'll fight for ya, and he does it in the big games, and he's not afraid of getting back and defending which isn't something you normal find in the highly rated, real top class players (according to the media) like Ronaldo.
He's a great player and any country would kill to have him.

He's calmer now, but if all the English players soley rely on him and nobody works and the pressure mounts and he's killing himself around the pitch while everyone else watches, well then he'll get frustrated and when he's frustrated he either does something magical, or something completely stupid.
Laws of averages surely means it'll fall on the right side this WC.
I don't envy him, I don't think there's a player out there who'll have more pressure on his shoulders to perfom, that's a lot to take. He needs players there who are willing to share the load or ye're in troubble.

Re: Wayne Rooney is a liability

He is without question a liability, he plays with heart and passion rather than discipline and precision, emotion instead of steely determination, which is why he will never truly be world class....imo

Re: Wayne Rooney is a liability

This season Which one of his goals for the scum was world class goal? Apparently he hasn't scored a goal outside the box for 2 years. I remember him for everton scoring quality goals 30 yarders. first european game for the scum he scored an hatrick of the highest order. He was on the brink of being world class. He's a tap in merchant, balls in the penalty area for tap in he's good on the ball But not world class. Crouch will score more goals than him if he starts every game. He even believe his own hype! did you see that shot he went for? from about 70 yards, infact I've changed my mind he's Shit!!!!
