To be fair, I did get it. I said Pantera (along with 2 others) was a possibility and that was the only album of theirs on the list - I just didn''t bother typing the title in.
Reading some of the reviews, that's about as much joy as I'll get this week (apart from maybe writing a comedy review).
Fair enough I thought as much , you would have obviously settled on Pantera once you saw the titles.
I have actually listed to this album a few times so I should have nabbed it myself.
Getting too old and memory fading is my excuse.
I think what they produce on this album albeit predictable and repetitive is solid and I can see why its highly regarded amongst their fan base and in heavy metal circles.
Phil seems to be doing his best impression of early James Hetfield and Mike Patton on speed without the vocal range for much of the album and we only see the best of his vocals on my favourite two tracks.
They don't quite land the fuck you we stayed true to ourselves lyrics and we don't need your approval message and outlived all that came before us and after so to speak which is what I think they are attempting to give to the listener in many of the songs but I don't mind the effort they make.
Live in a Hole and Hollow the best of the tracks for me.
It doesn't get better for me the more I listened to it as many records do that suit your ear and get you to think outside your comfort zone and emotionally grab you either by the heart or the head that you continually want to listen to and get more from the more you listen to it like a good drug that you don't overdose on.
Prefer Power Metal and I am the Night but give it a 5/10.
