All Time Top 1100 Albums (Aerosmith - Big Ones) P265

Agree with this. 100%

Although Stills has a lot of talent, as he proved with Manasis
Young was a good enough musician to be in the Wrecking Crew which says it all.

understood and crafted many genres into his music and wrote it as well.

Wrote many a song that the likes of Dolly Parton would sing in her quieter moments and only admit to later in life.

his knowledge of music throughout the world and how to adapt it to his audience particularly blues in all its forms where the age of Rock and Roll and hence Rock and subsequent derivatives could not have been crafted from the early 1900's until now is simply breath taking.

Great album. After the sad passing of Free it was great to hear one of the best male singers again. Has to be a big 9 from me.
In the top 5 frontmen of all time without doubt.

Got all their stuff on vinyl never get tired of playing Bad Company x 3.

I would say there is substantial if not enormous doubt.

No one is displacing Jagger, Mercury, Plant or Ozzy, and there are at least a dozen more who might be considered in the top 5. And this is an exceedingly generous definition — i.e. Springsteen and Bowie don’t count as frontmen. Maybe not even Iggy Pop counts.

I have him above ozzy , for me Plant is no1 by a country mile little or no point talking about so called or pseudo frontmen.

Bowie IMO did his best work with Mick Ronson a frontman though ? What ever floats your boat.

No matter your definition of frontman you have to be liberal perhaps on Mars pardon the pun to include Bowie.

Bon Scott was a great frontman miles ahead of Springsteen in that genre to give you one example.

I like AC/DC more than Springsteen but I never considered Springsteen a front man — the E Street Band is his backing band for his songs arranged his way. Whereas Scott or Daltrey or Stipe or Bono is/was the lead singer in a band (a collective) and therefore a front man. It gets fuzzy with, say, Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. Anyhow, regardless I don’t see Rodgers as top 5 or 20 — maybe 50. Maybe.

Fair enough , he was an automatic choice to continue Queens desire to continue on stage albeit his best days were well behind him in IMO we all get old Fog , my octave range has diminished (LOL) since I turned 40.

All those you mention are top notch and with good reason , I don't consider Knopfler in the same light , a frontman IMO belts out the lyrics but I do see where you are coming from on Knopfler.

Outside top 50 maybe for PR I reckon you are being a tad harsh Fog.

Free would have been amazing at Woodstock although their masterpiece Fire and Water was released the next year.

That is fair that he replaced Mercury. For voice range not showmanship I imagine. I guess when I think of front man I’m including “center of attention” antics to a degree and not just vocal ability. As a California white kid who started listening to pop music in the mid-70s, David Lee Roth would be way high on my list of great front men e.g. so some of this is no doubt age and taste! I don’t even really love The Rolling Stones — I always felt they mixed the guitars way too low; live their songs sound SO much better — but Jagger is a no-brainer as is Plant and Mercury. Probably a good discussion for another thread though since we’ve hijacked it while all the UKers are asleep!

LOL I have to concur with every sentiment you mention except some of the UK mob would be sweating already for the Semi final and would be on this forum celebrating Freedom Day.

In the old school rivalry albeit non comparable by any means I was always a Beatles over Stones for music but to see live it was a no brainer for the Stones for obvious reasons.

Work on me for a while and I will liking all your Biden posts (LOL).

You are from/in Australia and you've not even given Peter Garret a shout for top 5 frontmen.
