Then the next day, the daily mail reported pretty much word for word the same thing. It's complete BS in my opinion. He'll only leave Liverpool for Real Madrid.

He never will, however much money we spend we're not going to turn Manchester into Madrid! Unless we import the sun and the culture. Alonso is spanish after all so he might just fancy a move back over there.

I have always had the impression that Alonso wants MADrid or bust. If the deal falls through, I think he'd stay where he is. The only doubt in my mind about this regards his piss poor relationship with Benitiz but I don't think things have deteriorated to the extent that he'll leave to go anywhere else in the Prem. The transfer request is for the exclusive purposes of pushing through a move to Real. And he wants to go back to Spain, anyway. It would surprise me if a deal with Madrid is eventually done but can't see him leaving the red scouse for anyone else.
