Alternative striker options

I normally say this these days but £70m for Mahrez, isn't that a little too high even for this market?

Is there really no one younger and better in the rest of Europe for that kind of money? Mahrez is very good but I think at 26 he may be already near his peak baring in mind we paid £40m for Sané and £43m for Bernardo both younger players with a much higher ceiling IMO but then again it depends who's available.

We could always wait until summer and push for a Pulisic transfer if we really wanted to make a statement who's right wing, right footed... but one of the top valued U20 players in the world right now so it would probably come at a high cost for a player to be used in rotation but then again that kind of competition would be great for the team.

Then there's maybe Malcom who's not as highly rated but young, Brazilian(chemistry with Jesus more likely), left footed(right wing) and can already play numerous positions across the front line(RW, LW, SS).

In fairness, Sane and (to a lesser extent) Bernado we're also greater risks and bought in a pre-VVD and Coutihno market.

So the comparison is flawed. I'd prefer Zaha myself, but Mahrez is a pretty good player in his own right. I think something between 55 and 65 million is fair.

Yes there is the market inflation but those fees are reserved for certain players(Coutinho, VVD, Mbappé, Neymar all widely sought after by the top clubs Mahrez is less of a sure thing in comparison). As for the risks most of us thought it was quite high for Sané but not many in Germany saw it that way and they were pretty much spot on. It is probably unfair to use Bernardo or Jesus to compare it to as deals like those are bargains compared to most transfer these days.

If we are buying in Jan and not looking to spend silly money, Zaha is not a bad shout but I think he's settled for now where he is after already having a big move that didn't go well(he may not be looking for a move right now and want some stability for a bit). Personally I think Richarlison would be better, both have PL experience but the latter may be slightly cheaper and is 5 years younger. Looks to have a lot of raw talent, pace and room to grow, doesn't he already play LW for Watford too?

What are the rules regarding transfers? Can you yranstra 2ice in one season? I always tot there was something against that.

And if so, wouldn't that bar Richardilson?

hazard, insigne or dybala in no particular order

we don't need another youngster (like bailey, neres, dolberg or werner) we need someone mature ready to come and make some big impact. and to rotate with the youngsters we already have (raz, jesus and leroy) alongside aguero

ps: IF aguero leaves icardi or kane

I watched Schalke during 15/16 season a lot, particularly to watch Sane playing. It was before Pep was nailed on as a manager and City's interest in Sane became public.
Remember myself thinking the price was outrageously low at the time of transfer. It was definitely a bargain, like GJesus.

As for Bernardo, I still refuse to believe that we've got him for 43m, given Monaco's success on transfer market and Mendy's price. Some French sources were quoting fugures approaching 80m, that seems more likely.

Just my perspective.

I'd ageea GJ was a bargain, coz he was already a star at his club. Sane was all potential. I watched him a fair bit too. He mixed magical moments with long periods of inconsequential play.

Actually, he still does that now. Albeit the periods of poor play are now shorter and less brainfart looking. His ability when he was on or blowing by a defender was never in question. But to be honest, he reminded me a lot of a young Balotelli.

Just wasn't sure he'd put it all together. Frankly, I'm still not sure even now that he will. But him at half his potential is already better than 80% of the players around.

So I'm not too worried. If he becomes the absolute best, even better. If he stays at this slightly less consistent but extremely devastating level. Cool. I'm already satisfied :)

Now that we're not spunking big money on Mahrez, I hope we go all out for Leon Bailey in the summer. Going to be an absolute star.
