The way it’s going, I’m not sure we’re that far behind.
Simples.The way it’s going, I’m not sure we’re that far behind.
It's bizarre how many people here are rallying around their polyester Sports Direct flags, egged on by the far-right and all the usual suspects; Farage, Tice, the Torygraph, the Mail etc. At the same time they are denying that they are far-right, despite being useful idiots for the far-right.The way it’s going, I’m not sure we’re that far behind.
Yes it’s depressing mate, and far more so for you than me I’m sureNot enough I don’t think:(

The point of my thread is that it's very possibly too late. Elections in 2026, should they go against Trump's wishes, will be voided. And there's nothing that's going to stop this.
Sorry to hear this mate. I try to be optimistic and hope this particularly vile climate emanating from this regime/far right puppet masters is at the beginning of its death throes, but I'm not wholly convinced yet.I’m more frightened for my kids than me. Especially my LGBTQ one.
America is on the cusp of fascism - and yet, I've read very little pushback from news outlets on this obvious fact.
Wake up America! Trump is deploying the national guard, FFS, with little consequential pushback in Democratic states - under the pretext to fight crime; give me a break; Trump is doing this to inure America to the deployment of the military into the USA itself.
Come 2026, midterm election time, what on earth to you think is going to happen? If Republicans lose the majority in the House or the Senate, Trump is going go declare election results going to Democrats void - full of corruption - and will deploy the military/national guard to seize voting machines to identify those responsible for the corruption - among other measures to ensure that he has unfettered power.
Why do I believe this?
1) Trump has frequently floated the idea of ending elections and becoming a dictator (some news coverage of this);
2) Trump has stated that he wants to run for a (unconstitutional) 3rd term (some news coverage of this);
3) Trump has stated in his Presidential campaign that once elected, MAGA will no longer need to fear the vote (by implication he'll make sure that votes no longer occur or will rig them in his favor);
4) Circa 2025 - Trump is (mostly) following project 2025 - he's eliminated all opposition to his positions in all institutions under federal control - save perhaps the judiciary - the FBI/CIA/Army/Navy/Marines/National Guard/Justice Department/CDC/and so on, are now under his total control;
5) Trump is deploying the military ahead of congressional elections in 2026 to left-leaning states/cities... this is (IMO) primarily to inure the public to an active military presence in Democratic states/jurisdictions. Ahead of his use of the military/national guard to overturn 2026 elections not in his favor.
What's going to happen in 2026?, assuming that Trump is still alive:
1) If Republicans retain control of the House and Senate, probably little;
2) If Republicans lose control of either the House or the Senate, then Trump will declare, via executive order, that the subset of results not in his favor are tainted - void - fraught with corruption - and so on - and will deploy the military/national guard/whatever to seize voting machines in districts/states that voted against MAGA.
What will happen in 2026 should Trump attempt to take the actions outlined above?... I honestly don't know. Maybe he'll succeed (most likely), but perhaps, just maybe, there will be an awakening and pushback (but I think that this is far less likely).
Democracy in America may well be already dead.
Isn’t this the very reason you retain the right to bear arms? “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state” and all that, in other words allows civilians to form an army to stop federal excesses.
I'd hazard a guess it's your average republican voters that are armed to the absolute teeth already.
The right to bear arms originated long, long, ago. IMO - this right was aimed at preventing England from invading America.Isn’t this the very reason you retain the right to bear arms? “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state” and all that, in other words allows civilians to form an army to stop federal excesses.

But . . . but . . . @Damocles told us we had nothing to worry about! :)![]()
Step back and take it in: the US is entering full authoritarian mode | Jonathan Freedland
Trump’s dictator-like behaviour is so brazen, so blatant, that paradoxically, we discount it. But now it’s time to call it what it is, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedlandwww.theguardian.com
But, assimilate, it will?The orange mess will die before fascism is allowed to fully assimilate. I wouldn't worry.
