American City Fans

I think ideally there should be a national supporters club for the US, if for no other reason and purpose than to get people in touch with regional groups.

My alma mater has a good model for local alumni clubs. It would make sense to have regional groups like MCFC New England, Pacific Northwest, NorCal, SoCal, NYC, Delaware Valley, Potomac, etc. There's already a decent one in NYC, and I've watched matches at Nevada Smith's with Donny, the fellow who runs that club.

I'm actually trying to start up a Boston-area group right now. If you'd be interested in joining that and I haven't already PMed or emailed with you, let me know.

Oh, and I own the domain mcfcusa.com. I'd be willing to put up a site there with resources for the City fan in the States, like links to regional groups.

So the new fan from Boston got me thinking about City and American fandom. There was a question a month or so ago about starting up a new City fan club in America. The more I think about this the more I think we've got a serious issue with our geography. Think about it, Oregon where I live is by itself the size of England. It's hard to put a nationwide fan club together for a single club when there aren't a lot of supporters of the sport let alone the club in the first place, and that's without taking into the account of our massive geography problem.

I don't know of another City fan in Oregon. Which sucks cause it would be nice to watch the matches with some fellow fans again(yeah I miss Manchester). So my question is, what can we as American City fans do about this problem? Are we just screwed by our huge landmass? Or is there a way for us to be able to come together? Maybe we just need to start preaching proper football to anyone who will listen? Is it up to us to make football more popular in the US in order for us to have some semblance of connection with our fellow City fans here?

Unless this is also you, it appears there's at least one other City fan in OR:

I'm not american ... and i don't post here much .. even though i do waste like 1 hour almost everyday over here reading all the nonsense:D

nyway i will be in california, berkeley from february to september this year .. if any other city fans would like 2 grab a drink and watch the game @ some pub .. i would be mightily pleased :D

Will be in socal possibly aug/sept....would love to meet up and reminice about city winning the UEFA cup ;)

Greetings all - Mancunian living over in here in the Virginia Beach area. Whilst I haven't found too many other city fans over here near me, we do at least have a wicked bunch of lads that play regularly in various leagues throughout the year. Lots of fellow brits, mostly in the military, but most seem to be of the arse/chavski variety. I play in 4 or 5 different leagues...footy has certainly grown substantially in the VA area in the past 8 years that I have been living over here. And most, even my American friends, cringe at the thought of watching MLS :)
Would love to participate in some type of US Supporters club, although as others have posted the vast size of the States is a problem.
As a side note, one of my good mates runs a killer german pub in Portsmouth, VA....over 300 different beers in stock!!! He supports Leicester City though....lol could be worse I suppose:)

If anyone's ever in the area, drinks are one me. Cheers Blues!!!

Another Washington DC-based fan?

I emigrated to DC about 4 months ago from England, would love to find more City fans in the area!

This is my first post. I registered just to be able to respond to this thread.

I'm a City fan living in Kansas City. I have a couple of friends who also support City. We get together most weekends and watch the games at a local pub. If anyone is in the area, feel free to join us! We're usually at the Gaf.

Born in Manchester and was a season ticket holder for 15 years on and off.

Now living in Pittsburgh coaching the great game. Never met a City fan in 4 years so I'd luv it if we could get something going.

Sick of meeting Rags at Pipers pub.

Gotta say, its interesting that oregon is the size of Britain.

Scale is mindboggerling

One year my mum flew over for Christmas....I live near Washington DC, and she casually asked one weekend if we could have a day trip to Los Angeles. She thought it was a few hours car drive away, bless her :D

hahaha. My in laws from Manchester came to visit over christmas this year and had a lot of trouble getting here with the snowstorms and all. My Father in law said that if they got stuck in Atlanta(their connection) that they would just drive to Oregon :) . We all learned a lesson about scale that day :).

I think if a few of us including the poster before who said he owns mcfcusa.com got together online an evening in the near future and had a chat about this, a more US centric City fanclub we might be able to hash an idea or two out and have something to move forward with, or at least a place to start? Thoughts, opinions, scathing critiques? :)
