Americana / alt.country thread

One that I’ve not seen mentioned so far in this thread and DEFINITELY worth a listen … The Wandering Hearts.

A British Americana band whose albums are brilliant!!

I enjoyed that, will do a bit of searching on these guys.
Ahab were bloody good for 3 years before Callum left the band.
Also have you seen on you tube Miley sing A man of constant sorrow from A benefit night for George Cloony ? Worth 4 mins of you're time, the girl is class.

When discussing Jason Isbell the other day someone said we need an Americana / alt.country thread. So, here we go.

To kick things off with a niche suggestion, do we have any fans of Slaid Cleaves here? I bought his 'Wishbones' album years ago, and am just digging through the rest of his discography. His lyrical commentary on the plight of the blue collar worker and the demise of the American working class is right up there with Springsteen and Johnny Cash IMO.

Got all his albums, great underrated artist……

Love this genre. 'Whispering' Bob Harris's R1 overnight & then R2 Saturday Night show championed many artists in this space. Lost track of what's happening there these days so thanks to everyone who's posted in this thread. I'll be having a good listen to some of this stuff:

Meanwhile here's an offering of my own. The Handsome Family's 'So Much Wine'

Saw them at The Gorilla a few years back, great show

It's really annoying that Wishbones is missing from all the streaming services. I've got it on CD **somewhere** but day to day I use Apple Music and for whatever reason that album isn't on there.

Irritating as it's one of my favourites of his. Quick as Dreams, what a stunning song.

Thanks to the Op for this thread,
like PB I got into Americana/Alt country through listening to Bon Harris on R2
its my favourite genre of music, so much so me and a mate went to Nashville some years ago for the first Americana Music Awards at the Ryman Theatre.
what an amazing few days that was seeing our favourite artists and plenty of new ones.I even had a chat with whistling Bob.
one of the first bands I got into was Uncle Tupelo, I remember ordering the CDs from a mail order record store called Miles of Music in Burbank, they used to send a catalogue with each order so I got into loads of Artists I hadn’t heard before.
ive also been to Austin which is a great music city and we came back armed with dozens of CDs.
I’m a big fan of both Slaid cleaves and Rod Picott, seen them here lots of times
Rod played a gig in Davenham just before the Pandemic.
I like virtually all the artists mentioned so far in the thread, faves have to be Jason Isbell and Ryan Adams and their old bands DBTs and Whiskeytown.

A few that i dont think have been mentioned yet
The Jayhawks
Richmond Fontaine
Waiting for Henry
Jeff Black
Bellwether
Danny George Wilson and his previous bands Grand Drive ,and Danny and the Champions
The late great Warren Zevon

From Canada
Wyckham Porteus
Jim Bryson
Justin Townes Earle

i could drone on forever ,as you can see it’s passion,

heres a new one
I can’t believe he’s from the Cyrus family
sounds just like Levon Helm and Steve Earles on it

Saw Wily Vlautin at Band on the Wall last year, great stuff and JTE (RIP) at Deaf Institute a few years back, seriously underrated artist and sorely missed, taken to soon

His mate Rod Picott is worth a listen, seen him a few times at tiny venues over here
