Don't get a taxi from the airport their robbing bastards, had 5 days there last year for Ajax can't remember much tbh

Don't get a taxi from anywhere! Was there a couple of years ago. Two of us shared a taxi from Central square (near railway station) to the port with a family who were also heading that way. At the port, we offered fellow passengers our share of the fare which they declined. Saw fellow passenger next morning and asked him how much it had cost.... to which he replied, 25 Euros. Found out later on that morning that it was only a 15 minutes walk from where we picked up the taxi to the port. Cheeky bastard taxi drivers!

as has been said - get the train, not a taxi, stay away from the big squares and head out a few stops for cheaper beer and weed.
if you are going to anne franks go early as the queues get mental.
Canal trip is worthwhile
Botanical gardens nice, but small.
Rembrant museum is full of paintings
The Rijksmuseum has just re-opened so Ive never been, but is meant to be fantastic
The Royal Palace was all a bit the same except the unbelievable grand hall
My advice is to smoke and mooch about - especially around some of the canals and side streets - there is always something to see.
The red light is tacky and scruffy and expensive - and certainly not representative of Amsterdam as a whole

Yes & Yes - And get completely out of your tree on the mushrooms too!

All I can say is, at 16 I had the best rugby tour i've had to this day in Amsterdam...
