and another thing that gets on my nerves,

The Guys in the Studio's off both Channels have all done very well in my opinion and special credit to Lineker who could barely contain his anger yesterday. Shearer who I am not a big fan of; also looked like we all felt. The foreign lads Davids, Radebe, Seedorf, Patrick and Ade have all been good and added to the shows.

Most of the commentators however are very poor and the summarisers at the Games - McCarthy, Coleman, Beglin and Lawrenson have been truly awful. Best ones on the Box - Lee Dixon ( no City bias from me) and Gareth Southgate.

As for the attacks on the BBC - this is how they should spend my Licence fee and not on second rate Antique, Cookery and House buying shows.

top post, dont agree with the comment above regarding commentary in a studio, never get a taste of the atmosphere, take la liga for instance.

how many people have the bbc took over there, why are linekar, shearer, hanson and many more over there, all paid for of course, why are they not in a studio in london, as if these people arn't rich enough without getting everything laid on for them, really gets on my tits,

But this is the English/British way bluemoonno1. They are very important people and should be waited on hand and foot. The nation is on the edge of its seat waiting for the pearls of wisdom from the Creosote King. It's somebody else's money and the BBC, along with those parliamentary turds know how best to spend it!
Get in. Did you know that during the last Olympics, the BBC had more staff out there than we had athletes........wankers.

well why would they do any different than ITV or any other broadcaster showing live games?
Plenty of broadcasters in other countries don't send over hundreds of people to cover the World Cup. Al Jazeera (which covered it for the Middle East and North Africa), for example, has based its studio at its headquarters in London and their coverage/analysis has generally been of a very high standard: Peter Reid, Tim Sherwood, Graeme Souness, Sam Allardyce, Ali Bernabia, Gus Poyet, Scott Sellars, Trevor Francis (with none of them scared to stick the knife into England's precious little darlings).

The whole BBC pre-match, half-time and post-match gang don't need to be over there. They're just watching the game on the TV like everyone else as they're not even broadcasting from the stadium, they're sat in a box on top of a hospital that is up to 1,000 miles away from some of the games. Obviously the commentators should be there, and there's nothing wrong with having a few roving reporters out there to guage atmosphere and opinions.

But basing their broadcasts in London would have immediately saved on the business class flights, accommodation and subsistence payments of Hansen et al, as well as on all the additional expenses incurred by the army of people responsible for producing their programs.

Commercial broadcasters can do whatever they want with their money, but it's ridiculous for the BBC to be blowing its license fee on sending hundreds of people off to South Africa for a jolly.
