And the ref for Sunday is........

the quality of refereeing has to be at all time low, seems like there isn't any competent referee nowadays. Oliver missed 2 stonewall penalties in Tottenham v Everton game also. Conference standard at best.

A week ago some City fans were bemoaning UEFA refs for stitching City up in Europe and comparing them unfavourably to Premier League referees

the standard of officiating in the league has to be at an all time low right now. i don't believe they're bent i just think they're incredibly inept and simply not upto the job. it doesn't help when everybody has the chance to see multiple slow-mo replays so we can call them out on every single mistake. Something quite radical needs to be introduced imo. Perhaps a ref in the stands with the benefit of tv replays maybe not for every single decision but giving him the ability to advise the ref on a wrong key decision like a penalty appeal or booking. it might slow the game down a few extra seconds but that will be barely noticeable given how often and easily players throw themselves to the floor nowadays anyway.

The sooner referees are interviewed after the game to explain their decisions the better. They are paid as professionals and should be made to justify the decisions they make. If they get a decision wrong that's fine, they are only human and have to make split second decisions, but they should accept when they got things wrong or be able to explain why they made the decision they did.

I completely agree... if pundits and journalists are rating their performance and they now have as big as part to play as the players themselves, in football, then they should be interviewed instead of "protected"... will make them much more sharper and probably even more inclined to support video replay (which takes less than 30 secs before anyone comes on and starts moaning about stopping the game for long periods)...

If the penalty situation today involved Hazard it would have been given. Sergio's being tarred with the cheat brush at the moment and it's a fucking scandal. Incompetent or bent, the current situation can't be allowed to continue for much longer before the integrity of the competition is called into question. The prems getting more like the chumps league every week.
