Should have brought Petrov on instead of Gelson
---------------------

did u see petrov's match fitness last week?
As a last throw of the dice, it would have been a better bet than Gelsn.

Question - why was he on the bench if he was considered too big a risk for a 15 minute run-out?

You don't think he could have handled 15 minutes, plus a possible 30? ffs.
Could we have handled another 30 mins with no midfield?

Yes he could.

But lets not risk it eh? Lets put GF in the midfield and pray for a fucking miracle.[/quote]
I said, could WE (as a team) handle 15 mins plus a further 30 mins if we would have put Petrov on for Zab? I didn't say, "could Petrov handle it". I don't think we could, but its only an assumption. People get their team predictions shot down when they play a midfield lacking any bite. Although GF don't provide much of that compared to the rest of the Def Mids we have, he plays that position and after the events that unfolded last night he had to put him on. Without GF there they would have tore us apart.

I've edited my post, apologies

I know what I would of prefered last night. A few things really which a number of people near me were saying.

1. Dunne was always going to get a red in that game, he made at least 2 stupid challenges before he actually got sent off. My suggestion was move Kompany back, sub Dunne for Petrov.

2. Big Phil looked really really tired 2nd half, especially the last 20mins. Straight swap for Sturridge. Now I`m not slaggin Big Phil off by any means, in fact I thought he actually had a decent game, took his goal well.

3. Zab got injured, can`t be help. At this stage we`re still behind so this is where MH should have gone for it and threw another striker on.

I know alot of the above would possibly of left us short in the midfield but as mentione din previous posts, may of well got beatern by 2 fully going for it rather than by 1 being catious.

Despite all the above, was really proud of the players, every single one of them put a shift in for the team, the shirt, the club.

To be fair to Hughes, the last attack Hamburg had before Elano came off it looked like the batteries had fallen out of Elano cos he was trying to sprint but it went from a jog to a fast walk, then he stopped and had his hands on his knees - he was tired! But is that Hughes's falt for not playing him enough throughout the season?

This.. If Elano has games under his belt then he could have gone all night

Leslie, for taking off Elano and bringing on GFF!! We need one goal with 10 min's to go and he bring's on a player that rarely passes the ball forward! i know Elano had ran himself into the ground and probably had nowt left in the tank but bringing on GFF instead of ANYONE else seem's ridiculous. Can anyone explain this to me as i'm still baffled by it.

And the winner of the shittest jump on the manager at any opportunity post is.........................................................

YOU

I said at half time if we get it back to 2-1 we should sub Dunne as he was a sending off waiting to happen.
As for the players being knackered well it should have been a triple substitution as soon as Dunne fucked up. Fresh legs and somethingelse for Hamburg to think about.
Personally I`d have had Caicedo/Zab/Richards off. On would have come Sturridge/Petrov and Logan, and then just gone for it. If Hamburg scored another so what.

Last 15 mins should have been...........

Given
Nedum / Kompany / Bridge
Logan / Elano / Ireland / Petrov
Sturridge / Robinho

i've been a Hughes backer all season but some of his decisions, especially his subs have been baffling, IMO overall he's not done a good enough job, i want him to succeed, i don't want ANOTHER season of transition, he's made some very good buy's but it's not been good enough. Anyway back to the point, BRINGING HIM ON WHEN WE NEEDED TO SCORE WAS TOO FUCKING NEGATIVE!!!
