Andrea Cambiaso

Wouldn't surprise me if the player is waiting to see if we get through on Wednesday night first given Juve are already through.
I've seen similar suggestions about success on Wednesday being a deciding factor moves. I guess it's fair enough to have that opinion but I can't get behind it myself as it would make the players out to be focused on short-term opportunities.

Knockout stages are crazy anyway and there would be the opportunity to qualify for next year and play then.

I agree that Cambiaso would not be making the chouice based on Wednesday. However, I could see that City decide to wait until the summer if they get knocked out. Maybe if they go through they might feel like they need him.

First I'll get the CL Final out the way. Pep's admitted he over-thought it & had a brain-fart by having a starting line-up that didn't feature Fernandinho or Rodri for the first time that season. This in no way reflected on the form of the players who didn't start.

Secondly, we'll have to agree to disagree. We're having such a strange season, a defender is in the top 3 scorers for City. Decimated by injuries, we've had to be playing untested academy kids in big matches, as we're desperate for bodies. With a fully fit squad, those kids nor Nunes were likely to start, but needs must.

You mentioned Delph & Zinchenko. Again, both filled in at LB instead of their preferred positions. City were happy to allow both players to leave, with Zin technically coming into his prime. How did their careers pan out afterwards?

During the periods of Yaya, Fernandinho, Silva, KDB, Gundog, Bernardo & Foden, who were our midfield squad fillers? Are you claiming that after the collapse of the £85m deal for Paqueta, that we spent £53 on Matheus the squad filler?

So were Nunes, Kovacic & Philips bought just to fill in where & when necessary, or to challenge for a first team spot? Once our rebuild is complete, does Nunes continue to be our Delph, Zinchenko etc utility man?

The main point you're not getting from me is Nunes is this season's sticking plaster. Pep would rather a midfield of players, whose combined age is nearly 100, than rely on Matheus.

We see things differently which is part of the rich tapestry of football. I merely want better for City & Pep's small squad than Nunes & Philips. I'm also tired of defending Jack & I think it best for all parties that those three get gone.

Nunes found his level at Wolves, where he wasn't exactly ripping up trees. Philips is apparently turning things around at Ipswich. Again he's finding his level. With the players we're reputedly targeting, I find it hard to see where Jack fits in either.

Kovacic is all the squad player we need going forward. The rest need to have the quality to be challenging to start every match, taking into consideration rest & rotatation. All IMHO of course...
Pep not starting Fernandinho in that CL final is the biggest tactical mistake I can think of, criminal. Ferno was ready to boss that game and had he played I feel certain we'd have won. Sorry but that costly error by Pep still bugs me.

Nahh we will buy him either way because he is a top class football on the ball and intelligent plus we need a bigger squad!

Me too mate. I'm still gobsmacked today over his starting line-up. We gave that match to Chelsea & Pep knows it.

He’s both and in a Pep system would be very special. Like Cancelo when Cancelo decided to be good. He’d make a big difference to us.
Cancelo couldn't defend and had the heart.of a mouse. Signing anyone remotely like Cancelo would just be extending our rather bizarre run of not having an actual left back even further.

Would like to press the like button but doesn’t feel right liking the fact your family got home but people died

So glad your family were safe blue

Remember watching this pan out and was shocked the game went ahead

I married my Italian wife 14 years or so ago now. They are all proper Juventus supporters. They have a certain dislike for all thing scouse!! I have become a Torino supporter since I started living here to get a bit of banter going. My wife is now a big City fan and never misses a match.Nice to be around proper football people. They all respect City and where we have come from.

Yeah, the idea of players basing a 5-7 year decision on the potential of 2 games is hilarious to me.

If we win Wednesday, all we get is an opportunity to play a knockout series. I doubt any player would go , yes or no, on those facts.

Big connection between City and Torino from the 90s

Had a lot to do with the new maroon kit back then

I now always look out for their results

Rico's a 20 year old lad with 5 England caps and almost 80 appearances for City. That's a brilliant start to his career and quite an emergence. He came in and mixed things up when senior players weren't performing. He's another who is happy to play wherever Pep wants him to and will do his best. But he's been played too often and with the other issues we've had he's struggled to perform. He needs the rest and to come in as and when we need him but into a better situation. He's had way too much criticism considering his age. He's a City fan who's doing his best and who has plenty of time to develop and deserves our patience. He's already made more appearances this season than he did last season. I would have thought Pep would have wanted him to step up but not to have to rely on him the way he did.
I’m not looking rid of him nor criticising the lad. Only asked what his role will be going forward?

He could have reached his ceiling or this could only be the start. We all hope he succeeds, think that goes without saying.

If we bring in Cambiaso and nunes keeps developing into that role then Rico will have to play midfield? That’s a hard task with pep.

Same. As does not starting Sergio or at least not bringing him on a lot lot sooner.

We got to a final playing a false 9 and was very much the right way to set up. It got us through Dortmund and PSG comfortably. Pep fucked up starting Sterling, a player who wasn't in the lineups in them earlier rounds. It moved Foden out of position and we didn't play Rodri or Ferna, deciding to put Gundog in defensive mid, alone, off the back of his best season for City scoring wise. Pep fucked up in many ways that night, Aguero wasn't the issue though.
