Andrea Cambiaso

We got to a final playing a false 9 and was very much the right way to set up. It got us through Dortmund and PSG comfortably. Pep fucked up starting Sterling, a player who wasn't in the lineups in them earlier rounds. It moved Foden out of position and we didn't play Rodri or Ferna, deciding to put Gundog in defensive mid, alone, off the back of his best season for City scoring wise. Pep fucked up in many ways that night, Aguero wasn't the issue though.

Don't disagree. But once he did set up that way, a finally fully fit and scoring for fun Aguero in his last ever game for the club, over an out of form huffy at not getting a game Sterling would have imo made a world of difference. Particularly once we went a goal down and needed it. Hence I daid 'that, and..'.

I think he let Tuchel and Chelsea get in his head too much. We played them in the league with a back 5, Rodri as the DM and then Sterling, Torres, Jesus and Aguero. Went in 1-0 at HT and lost 2-1. Sterling had a good game, his movement was a threat. Then we played a 4-2-3-1 in the FA Cup with Rodri and Ferny in the middle behind De Bruyne and were toothless. I think, because of that, he felt we needed someone deeper to create chances in the knowledge Chelsea would sit off and counter. Let Gundogan thread the ball to our attacking players and force overloads. Sadly, the risk was giving away possession and leaving a lot more space as we saw. De Bruyne's injury didn't help either. I still think we should have played the team that got us to the final. We'd made a few changes but they'd won every knockout game and deserved to play the final. You have to plan for the opposition to some extent but when it's the club's first CL final - the first for most of the players - it's better to let them play as a more settled 11 rather than try and nail something new on the biggest of stages.

I'm willing to let him off now we've gone and won it, and it's just like City to win it for the first time as part of a treble. Set the standards as high as we can!

I'm glad it's not just me who's still upset by that night! Lol :-)

If we'd have lost playing the best we could, I could've accepted it better, but we were the architects of our own downfall that evening.

he signed yet?

I’m not looking rid of him nor criticising the lad. Only asked what his role will be going forward?

He could have reached his ceiling or this could only be the start. We all hope he succeeds, think that goes without saying.

If we bring in Cambiaso and nunes keeps developing into that role then Rico will have to play midfield? That’s a hard task with pep.
My gut feeling is telling me Rico isn't going to be good enough longterm. I hope I'm wrong as Iike him, especially him being a local lad and I want him to succeed here. I can't see what position he can nail down. If we keep him as a squad player then he needs to impact on games more and be more forward thinking in his play. Maybe he needs more time on the bench but when he comes off it he needs to make things happen because he's not really progressed much since his debut season. It's fair to say his confidence has regressed as he's lost his cocky swagger he had in his debut and second season.

In hindsight I am actually very happy happy that we won it for the first time in a full stadium.

Yeah not the right thread for it in hindsight, but if anyone mentions it all the negative emotion climbs back to the surface. They were a good side, better than we probably felt they were at the time. Tuchel had them well set up for tournament football, hard to create chances against and hard to beat. But it would have been nice to see the majority of the side that got us to the final, which Pep had only tweaked here or there due to injuries/opposition, start the game at least. We'll never know....and as I said we won it in the sweetest way in the end!

Turning their old iconic Filadelfia stadium into a training ground looks amazing, definitely worth a visit when I’m back in the boot

Big connection between City and Torino from the 90s

Had a lot to do with the new maroon kit back then

I now always look out for their results
We had a maroon second strip in the 60’s

I think the fact he can play wingback on BOTH sides is probably very attractive to the club and Pep.

He loves players who can play in multiple spots, as it keeps the squad size down.

Still think if we persist with this double wide fullback syste (I hope we do), that we eventually buy another fullback in the summer as well to have 4 for 2 spots (depth is good to have).
