Just as thermal coal can be replaced with clean energy from renewables, we can use low-emissions steel manufacturing to phase out metallurgical coal.

His conclusion says that it is achievable. If there is greater investment towards and pressure to use alternatives the timescale will be reduced.

It would be better to buy the required coal from overseas than open a new mine.
