Andy Burnham | Manchester Mayor

I'd challenge that. They were prepared to knock down the Etihad and spend whatever it took to build something more in line with their high expectations. Had we still been at Maine Road they'd have been able to do that.

Having a shiny new stadium was a big attraction.

For some potential owners, maybe. ADUG certainly didn't regard it as shiny and, for an almost new stadium, viewed it as rather underwhelming. If you go back to the time of the takeover and look at the kind of major construction projects that had recently been taking place in Abu Dhabi, you'll see why.

Sounds like any new swamp is decades away to me based on that @Kirkstall Blue .

I remember having to commute by train daily through GM 30 years ago and there was lots of talk about how this and that will improve over the coming years and yet here I am now, near retirement, and they’re still talking.

The longer the better for Scruffy Jim…… I’ve said it before & ill say it again they’ll play at Wembley.

They could tour around the country - Wembley, Murrayfield, Millenium
They could even use it as an excuse to play overseas. Imagine how much they could charge for a Premier League game in New York - even against Fulham or Bournemouth.

There is next to no chance ADUG would have taken over City if we were still at Maine Rd

Burnham & Co, United, and Trafford Council are planing to tie the Trafford Civic Quarter, New Trafford Stadium district, and Trafford Wharfside together into one larger proposal.

The new stadium on the model is in the wrong place. It will be further to the left once the freight terminal land is bought by the Government.

This is simply wrong. They wanted and were quite prepared to spend whatever it took to build a new stadium even in 2008. Us being at Maine Road would have given them the perfect reason to do that.

Sport England's legal interest in the Etihad expires in 2028, so we'll see what happens then. The Etihad's effective economic life 50 years, so we'll be halfway there at that point.

ADUG were attracted by the entry price to aquire City and its assets, the developable land, future land acquisition opportunities, and an entrepreneurial Council leader, in addition to City's history and long term potential.

No assets/land = no deal !!

Whare are these extra 100,000 jobs going to belong? I'm sure as hell can't see them. United have already made 250+ redundancies so is that included in the figure?

That figure is just for PR purposes. I would say it’s an outright lie. But it doesn’t get questioned by the media.

Obviously jobs will be created, just like they have been and are still are being created at City.

It was definitely helpful but the lack of it wouldn't have been a significant hindrance.
