Andy Burnham

Well someone will have to pay for all the buses to be repainted for a start. According to the report I have read it will be down to rate payers so that's Council Tax up already.

I got my first car in the 80's - a '71 Avenger I towed home from an auction in Rochdale. Rusty. scruffy and not always reliable - All the cars I have been able to get since then have been the same - even the brand new one's. Nothing changes eh?

It wasn't a promising start - the fact that you had to tow it home!!!

well for fifty quid......tbh it was a decent runner - some trader had switched 2 plug leads about to make it run lumpy and the diaphragm in the carb was torn - I took some comfort from the fact that the trade had thought enough of it to make it run badly and drive the price down. Don't think a dealer caused the rust in the floor and strut tops and if he had smoke enough fags in one go to make it stink like it did I assume he never made it home. Remember used cars of that ear and the all pervading smell of ciggies? And in cabs too !!

Yes I had enough wrecks in those years as well, if it didn't have holes in the floor you knew it had been bodge repaired and wasn't to be trusted!!!!

last time I was in a cab was about 2015 - a Skoda Octavia ( aren't they all? ) sticker on the back door windows " no smoking, no eating, no drinking". The cabbie chucked a fag when I approached to get in so you could smell that in the car and he had an open bag of chips on the seat next to him and a can of coke in the cup holder lol

My only problem with this bus thing is not returning to the orange and brown and painting the fuckers yellow, what are we mersey transport.

Plus if they don't reintroduce clipper cards, what's the fucking point

It was absolutely gash in the 80's before privatisation. Underfunded, old buses that never turned up, nope sorry, this is not a good move.

Standard Tory Operating Model.... deprivation of funds .... allow the service / business to fall behind any competition / Cause discontent amongst the employees / Cause discontent amongst the service users ........ then sell off with a guarantee that if the new owner cant make a profit the tax payer will bail them out.

See British Rail / Coal Mines / NHS etc etc etc.

As my OP said it was a mess before privatisation and don't forget Labour were in power for many years and didn't invest either. The Labour policies actually corrupted the bus sector and cost the tax payer a huge amount of money. What has happened in Liverpool happened in the bus industry under labour. (free travel for pensioners for one, the schemes they put in place turned into a huge scam)

Those orange and brown ones matched the arndale....grim 70's combo colours.
If they can match with the trams it will be for a prettier, neater sight and less consuming for visitors (when we have visitors using public transport again).
Mind you, I have a bit of OCD. I'd be terrible with a lot of power.

So his big pledges when he took office were:

Devolution
Extremism
Homelessness
Housing and Green Belt
Mental Health
Political Relationships
Transparency and Responsibility
Transport

How’s he done across this list?
