Andy Burnham

So his big pledges when he took office were:

Devolution
Extremism
Homelessness
Housing and Green Belt
Mental Health
Political Relationships
Transparency and Responsibility
Transport

How’s he done across this list?
Well, with regards to extremism I think he needs to work a little bit harder.
Regarding homelessness, sadly the fucker still has a roof over his head.
Transparency, OK he is doing well on that, everyone can see what a knob he is.

My only problem with this bus thing is not returning to the orange and brown and painting the fuckers yellow, what are we mersey transport.

Plus if they don't reintroduce clipper cards, what's the fucking point
Yellow and black are the colours of the worker bee to be fair.

So his big pledges when he took office were:

Devolution
GM now has control over a part of the health budget, so that is spent on the needs of Mancunians which are different to the needs of other places.
Extremism
I don't know
Homelessness
Some progress has been made, nowhere near enough for my liking but funds are short. Done lots of works with various charities like 42nd street.
Housing and Green Belt
There is more housing being built, don't know about the green belt, but Cheshire East council is building on green belt
Mental Health
Loads of work gone into this, there is expected to be a huge crisis in MH post Covid, steps are being taken, but provision is again suffering because of lack of funding.
Political Relationships
Don't know.
Transparency and Responsibility
Don't Know
Transport

How’s he done across this list?
Promising news about buses, bring back SELNEC, integrated transport system and hopefully introduction of a Mancunian version of London's Oyster card,

Cheers for that!

I’m sure I’ve read before that you’re doing some work into mental health, is that right? Well done for that!

I quite like Burnham. He’s a good orator, sometimes people like that can mask their deficiencies by winging it and talking the good talk, but I do think Burnham does try and action the things he says he will.

Bringing the buses under public control again in GtrMcr is a great move. Exactly the sort of politics I like.

We already have a Mancunian style Oyster Card. It’s called Get Me There: https://getmethere.com/

I’ve got a card for when I use the bus. There’s an app but it only works for Mets, not the buses (don’t know why?!).

The biggest thing for me, though, is Green issues. And I think that’s Burnham’s best area:

I also like his vision for Manchester within tech. Tech is the now, never mind the future and Manchester is the fastest growing tech city in Europe.

System one travel card combines most bus operators and metro for Greater Manchester

To play devil’s advocate how much is the bringing the buses back to public ownership costing and could that money be better directed to some of the more worthy causes you flag?

To a community that has seen its bus service disappear its priceless. That in itself would be a boost for the economy, it makes work easier to find, it encourages inward investment into the community and helps curtail the use of cars.

Our transport system is appalling and it is drag on the economy, it harms productivity so whatever it costs should be seen as an investment, not a cost.

I do lots of stuff with Innovation Health Manchester, Burnham is a massive supporter of the work.

We are currently doing work on mental health, digital health, covid vaccine roll out, community care and lots of other projects that are designed to try and make healthcare for Manchester better equipped to serve the needs of Mancunians.

Its under an umbrella called the ARC which makes use of the Universities, Hospitals, business and local people in order that research is done in the correct areas that will benefit Manchester and if it is successful in our City then it may get rolled out across the UK. I have just been asked to be a co-applicant into research being done into community nursing, i will be what's called the PPI (public, patient, involvement) lead on the project. I have never done it before but its exciting as i will be working with researchers from Manchester Uni.

Burnham is really into this sort of stuff as it can have real benefits to the people of Manchester, of course it will hardly get a mention in the media, as its Manchester, but don't underestimate his commitment to it and the good thing is from my point of view is that it is being lead by the people of Manchester who know and understand the needs of our city.
