Used to work with him many years ago, but since lost touch. Just interested to hear any opinions - good, bad or indifferent - as to what/how he's doing as mayor of Manchester.

He was my MP and I've met him a bunch of times. My opinion swings on him like the weather.

Basically, I used to think he was a dipshit but so many other dipshits have come along since then that he's moved into comparatively not dipshit land without doing anything.

He seems to be doing a good job as Mayor of Greater Manchester from what I can gather.

I voted for him in the mayoral elections and I can't say I've noticed anything different yet, except there might be more homeless people now.

Seems to be doing a decent job.

The roads are utter shite , the trains are not getting sorted and the number of homeless people on the streets increases daily, but Apart from that....

Certain he’s a big blue too, always a useful thing to have in the vacinity of the council offices
Had a big cry about how we weren't a big club (why does anyone care if we are or aren't) when we beat Everton in the league cup a few years back.

Proper toys out the pram stuff.

Real homeless or beggars. There are that many now it’s hard to tell the difference

Agreed, it was one of his big manifesto points - done jack shit. We aren’t getting a fast train to Leeds anytime soon. I have no idea which way to drive in Manchester there are that many roads that used to be two way now one way and it’s complete log jam. Don’t even get me started on the potholes .

He should be hammering home the injustice in the amount of spending on transport in the south east v the North West and getting it sorted.

Also Bernstein always had ambition for the city - olympic bids, commonwealth games , regeneration, festivals etc.

What’s the scousers big plan?

Transport in and around Manchester is terrible as evidenced every match day when one tram every 20 mins is deemed sufficient. People stood up on trains and crammed in like sardines and roads that mean a 30 min journey takes over an hour. He needs to pull his finger out

Probably because the reality is that most of them are beggars and not homeless so there's not a lot he can do. There is no need for people in Manchester to be homeless. There is housing stock available for people who need it. Trouble is too many people believe that anyone sat on a street is homeless and only a few would support police action in moving them on if indeed the police had the will to carry it out. In Liverpool the police seem to actively move on beggars and the problem is nowhere near as bad as in Manchester.

A lot of money is now available for roads. (Bradford Road will be closed from next week for resurfacing, they've actually planned it when City are not at home so fair play for that).

He is (was) a Blair-ite. Him and James Purnell, who became MP for Hyde and Stalybridge, both tipped as young upcoming / bright stars for the future and 100% supporters of Blair....... wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

And as a Blairite he probably thought that his parliamentary ambitions were over and so head back north and get another, probably better paid 'job'!
