Self serving loathsome politician, why someone from Aintree is Mayor of our City I can't comprehend. He failed as a labour MP and will prove to be a failed mayor.

Before COVID occurred,a friend of mine who had built an app that would have served all small businesses/shops/cafes/restauarants in the city to promote them locally and overcoming SEO's etc. He was called for a meeting, waited for 3 hours and then was told 'Andy' was busy.

The bloke is all about soundbites on TV and radio.

I remember listening to GMR when he said 'with the government we have devised a Clean Air Zone' for Manchester, that would be wonderful for all.

Unfortunately he didn't expect the response from small business owners who all said they couldn't afford to buy or even find a van/car that was available for a reasonable price, and would either retire or close their business

The guy is an absolute clown, if you don't believe me, if you ever see him park his car wait while the doors fall off

I’m afraid the start of your post questioning his credentials due to where he was born makes it difficult to take the rest of what you say seriously.

You said he was from Aintree. Wikipedia confirms that. As the crow flies it is about 10 miles to the westernmost point of Greater Manchester. Hardly makes him a stranger to the area. And he was the MP for a GM constituency (Leigh) for 16 years before he became mayor.

Your story about your mate sounds like sour grapes from him because he didn’t get the help he wanted. Difficult to have an opinion without more details.

As for the clean air zone, it has been clear that it was imposed by the government. He had no choice but to go along with it or he would be breaking the law. The pandemic changed the plans and the timescales.

Yet he is fantastic at supporting Innovation Health Manchester which is making our city one of the go to centres for health research in the world. He helped Manchester secure the Associated Research Collaboration with funding from the NIHR, all which well help Mancunians live better and longer lives. As a former Health Secretary he understands the need for research and for that reason on its own he gets my vote.
