Andy Carroll not good enough for us?

Me too, i said we should take a tilt on this lad even before the Dips came in for him, England number 9 and a certain cult hero for years to come, pity it's not us that will be worshipping him, but 'we know fuk all' as we are just fans that have never played the game at Pro level.

The issue isn't that you know "fuk all" it's that there are only two options; a player is either good enough or he isn't. Making the call as a fan is easy, if you're wrong you just forget about it and if you're right you can remember. As a manager you live and die by your decisions.

As a consequence managers play it safe and sign the likes of Tevez who we know will do a job now. Maybe he won't go on to be a cult hero and our talisman for years to come but that's an issue the manager can deal with in the future. Until our manager knows he'll be here to reap the benefits of long term decisions he won't make them and we'll be stuck in a perpetual cycle of short term signings replacing short term signings.

Fortunately for us I believe somehow the club is starting to address this with signings like Boateng, Johnson, Henshall etc and long may it continue.

I just got totally sidetracked, my point is Mancini may have seen the potential in Carroll but not wanted to take the risk.

But he takes a risk on Dzeko? ok he scored A goal in the Chimps league, but i don't know what people have been watching or indeed their expectations of a player, but i certainly knew this lad was fkin mint, or is gonna be mint and exactly what we have been crying out for, for years, a no.9.

4 months later, my opinion stays exactly the same. :) Folks should do a review of their opinions every now and then.

Carroll is a menace, and his footskills are not as bad as many would like us to believe. Personally I don't think it matters who we get up top (at least not as much as it matters who holds on to the ball behind the guy up top.)

There are a series of ways we can go with signings. We could eshew an out and out striker all together, and bring in a few more ball skill players with intelligence. Personally, I'd favor this. Bring in Javier Pastore and David Luiz. Let Balotelli and Jo Come off the bench as backup strikers to Tevez. We wills score more goals. I think City needs to become a team scoring squad, as opposed to a striker dependent one. Lets get more goals from other areas.

Yaya, Silva, Barry, Milner, Johnson, Balottelli, e.t.c. have to score more. Getting 20 from Tevez and 15 from whoever comes in January, and a high of 5 from the next best scorer will be a disappointing trend.

Frankly part of the reason why we are so dependent on Tevez is simply because Tevez himself can be a bit selfish. Even o his 3 goal, Yaya was better positioned and a simple pass would have resulted in a ore likely goal. Luckily Colocini deflected Tevez's tough angle shot in.

Mancini complained about a little too much selfishness earlier in the season, it seems Adam Johnson is the only one who is listening. Last week he gave up a shot to make a pass to Yaya for our goal, and on the Tevez goal, he could have easily taken a shot but instead held back and passed. I think he should be rewarded with a start for some of these acts.

Others need to follow suit. Yaya once on one of his breakaway run had an opportunity to slot Tevez and get a likely open return pass, instead he went alone and lost it. Granted be probably knew Tevez probably wouldn't have given the return pass. Had that been Silva, I can almost swear Yaya would have passed off.

We need to work on these things. Kolarov is another one with that do it all by myself mentality. I love his shots, but he needs to pick and choose when to release them. Certainly not from the touchline or from an acute angle. That is simply just unhelpful. For example watch how Granger, Carroll and the annoying dude (Ex-Bolton chap) time and time again attempted to drop balls for each other in the box. They did it so often you could tell it was by design.

We need to become a little more like them in that respect. Trust your teammate and the pass!
Baines goal for Everton against us was another good example. Everyone letting the ball play as opposed to trying to play it all by themselves.

I understand the newness of the players to each other plays a role in how well they let the ball play, but sometimes it is simply just down to selfishness!

Wait, what was this thread about again? Oh yes, Carroll! good player that :)

Let's see him over a full season. I think he has the potential but I just can't see him making it. No he is not good enough for City, we should be buying strikers that are better than our best and Carrol isn't better than our best.

Going by how the last game went I could easily say Spearing and Lucas are good enough for us. We were so poor we made them all look quality.

The arrogance we have towards certain players though is unbelievable. Carroll would be a very handy weapon to any team. We don't need him though as we have strikers of equal/better standard. Ours just look bad because they are misused.

And who are our best?
IMO he is a different player to OUR BEST(Tevez), as for the rest then you have gotta be joking. From what i have seen of Dzeko i would have Boj, Big Phil and fkin Benjani before him.

Dzeko and Balotelli aren't better than Tevez. Carroll is better than both of then as well! So is Suarez!
