Andy Peebles RIP

RIP

There is a photo of him with Elton John in the Piccadilly Radio studio in the first Piccadilly Radio football annual. Possibly he did the Saturday afternoon football show in the mid 70s?

I always thought he was from wigan, sure I heard him talking about it once on radio 1.
He might have been brought up there, or just adopted it because of the music, he certainly didn't talk with a southern accent from memory. He was definitely a blue, as he often talked about it, but if he was brought up in the NW, he was about the right age to be the "glory hunter" from our late 60's/early 70's success.

That said I know few from the south, still going now, that had no connection with the NW.

I,m sure he said he used to walk down to the casino, maybe he moved there

Ah ok, I,m sure he used to frequent the casino though.

Did he become a blue when he moved up to picc. or was he a blue down south beforehand , anyone know ?

Sad news. Loved Soul Train (was it Sunday evening?). My memory could be wrong (I may be getting mixed up with Mike Shaft) but if it was Andy Peebles I seem to remember he did a final show on Piccadilly before moving to Radio 1 and it was one of the best shows I've ever heard.
Soul Train was mostly on a Sunday but also went out on a Friday sometimes (the Programme Controllers do enjoy freshening things up) and Mike Shaft took over the show when Andy moved to R1.
The quality of the music he played was just wonderful. New releases, fantastic archive tracks and exclusive imports, Andy found and spun them all.

RIP Andy
Great DJ and passionate Blue also,
Remember him in his Early Days at Picadilly 261
Loved his Cricket too

It’s mentioned in the “famous person who died” thread in off topic, but as a Blue he deserves his own thread.
RIP Andy
Here’s an interview with Cheesey

That brought back memories. The sands night club in stretford . Regularly in there. Norman whiteside and Paul McGrath were in there one night. The latter tried chatting up my girlfriend and future wife. She told him where to go.
I didn’t even after to step in. She put him right down with her comments.
I said he plays for united. She said I don’t care if he played for city. He is an horrible cretin.

Remember him from my childhood as he was the announcer at Maine Road. Even donkeys years later when I heard him on late night radio it took me back.
I would text in all these years later and remind him of his City days. He would always read it out with cheerful tones and memories. R.I.P Mr Andy Peebles.

I remember him being on the pitch at White Hart Lane before the game, it might have been the day they opened their new stand?

Always seemed like an odd booking, he mentioned his support for City and of course the Spurs fans...seemed to completely ignore him?

Always liked him since I heard he was a blue when I was a kid. Back in the day when we didn’t have that many famous fans, or maybe I just wasn’t aware of many!

Had forgotten he used to do the cricket on Radio Manchester.
